and how much does it cost?

quoteth iliveonnitro: Jim is now renting out a place, and is looking to buy it. Here is the address:

James Dean Muffler & Brake
6501 Joliet Rd.
LaGrange, IL 60525

Jim Galemb
Custom Exhaust Specialist
Metal Fabrication
708-352-0901 (shop)

Mon: 7:30am-2pm
Tues-Fri: 7:30am-5pm
Wed: 7:30am-7pm
Sat: 8am-2pm
Sun: closed

He is extremely busy right now, so he said that he is only working on appointments only. Good luck if you drop it off, because it might not work out. As always with Jim, paying cash gets you a better deal. Mention that you are with ILGPC.

From Schaumburg: I took 355 South; stay left and follow it all the way to 55N, merge onto 55 North. After a little distance, the Joliet Rd. exit will be ON THE LEFT side of the highway. A couple bridges, he will be on the LEFT HAND SIDE in a 3 car garage (looks nice), with the obvious label: JAMES DEAN muffler & brake.

Just understand that the "upgrade" is minimal. When Jim worked for Fair Muffler he had access to a mandrell bender which, to my knowledge, he no longer has. He earned his name and reputation based on the fact that he sold a well made, cheap, mandrell bent exhaust. Now it's just a well made exhaust for cheap that won't flow very well.

This is just my opinion. As far as people go, Jim is king, but as far as horsepower goes, your money might be best spent elsewhere.

Yes. Your not going to loose HP there...Mandrell vs. crush...Dont sweat it. Mandrell is good for looks...AKA intake tube ect. Or if you need a true bend. No distortion to make a close fit..But thats it. Just use what hes got.

Also keep in mind that crush bent or crimp bent exhausts have a significantly smaller inner diamter in the bends.

Yea it distorts the pipe smaller. Dont get me wrong. I mean mandrell is better. But compared to the double wall stocker your going to see improvements.

There is a guy on clubgp that is making mandrel bent downpipes. Im not sure on the price, but if you want his contact info....let me know. Basically, its from the rear manifold to underneath the car, so you would still need it welded to some more piping/cat, a flange put on, and O2 fitting welded in. But all that stuff is easy for a shop to do. So you can take his dp to a shop and they can finish it up for you.

At the end of August I had Jim fabricate and install a 3"dp, 3"ubend delete, and 3" resonator delete and all I can say is wow. There was a significant improvement in throttle response and overall power. It may be crush bent but he does some mighty fine work and really woke my car up :D

just my 2 pennies
