3800 Steering Issues...

Yesterday I drove the car around town and had no problems driving the car at all, I did not even drive the car hard once.

Last night when I went out to the car to run an errand one of my tires on the 18's was completely flat! So this morning I through on my stockers for the winter.

When I drive everything seems fine, when I steer to the right I have no problems and no noises. Now when I steer to the left, it seems like my power steering is out! I have to "man'handle" the wheel to turn, but this is only sometimes??? It also makes a "surging" noise when I turn it. When I pulled the car in last night before the flat, I thought I heard a pop come from the left side??? I didnt think anything of it till now. Any sugestions on what could be wrong? I do not know if is just something in the linkage, power steering about to go, etc.

Check the Cv boot. It might of popped if it did you would have grease everywhere.

Also check the serpetine belt for excessive wear. And most importantly check your PS fluid.

Your cars a 97? Im assuming its time for a new steering rack.. Someone may jump in with better info on the situation. There had been a recall on it, and a fix. I just remember hearing about "no power assist when turning to the left".
