3800 PCM/BCM Help code P1629

Ok....after working on my buddies 98 GTP we put everyhitn back together.

We had the PCM out while we were working on the motor and now the car starts and dies after 2 seconds.


MY bro-in-law scanned it with his snap-on scanner.

It comes up a p1629 code. Theft Deterrant Fuel Enable incorrect.


Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? does it have to be done with a tech-2?

I saw this on intense's website, he has had an intense pcm for about a month, and i'm in no way stating its the pcm's fault.....

^That was yesterday,

today we reset the code again and it still won't start, its kinda like the theft system kicked on and is thinking the car is stolen.....it starts for 2-3 seconds and dies.


Anyone have any idea to help????

can a BCM become unprogrammed?

I mean, when we had it all apart, the negative battery was disconnected, then we removed the PCM.


Later, several hours we put the PCM back in, then reconnected the neg. terminal.

Well the code stands for

DTC P1629 Theft Deterrent System - Cranking Signal

So it could easily be the case learn that is needed. I dont know why it would have waited so long, but yea. I have heard you can do the case learn with a certain snap on, but mainly with the tech 2. Or try and contact charles.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The theft deterrent control module produces the theft deterrent fuel enable signal when ignition is ON and the proper transponder key value is detected. The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the fuel enable signal during crank. If the proper signal is present on the PCM enables the fuel delivery in order to allow the engine to start. If the PCM is replaced, the replacement PCM should learn the password within a few seconds after the ignition is turned ON. DTC P1630 is an information code indicating that the PCM is ready to learn the theft deterrent password. The engine starts and continues to run with DTC P1630 set.

CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
The ignition is the CRANK position.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
he powertrain control module (PCM) detects an incorrect password from the theft deterrent control module.

ACTIONS TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS


The vehicle will not start.
The theft deterrent control module will not illuminate the SECURITY indicator.
The PCM will not illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).
The PCM will store conditions which were present when the DTC set as failure records data only. This information will not be stored as freeze frame data.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE MIL/DTC


A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles have occurred without a malfunction.
The DTC can be cleared by using a scan tool.

Refer to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections and Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Diagnostic Aids.

Verifies the condition for setting code P1626 or P1629 is current.
Verifies the condition for setting code B2955 or B2960 is current.
Verifies the theft deterrent control module has sent the fuel enable password.
Test the pulled high voltage is present at the theft deterrent control module.
Test the frequency is present at the powertrain control module (PCM).
If the theft deterrent control module is replaced the new module has to be programmed.
If the PCM is replaced the new module has to learn the theft deterrent control module fuel enable password.
