I'm driving my old mustang, well this morning the damn thing shut-off on me, and when I re-started it it was puffen black smoke outta the exhaust.. what does that mean?? I am REALLY LOW ON GAS.. but that wouldn't cause the black smoke would it?? its stick shift

well as hale and i found out in the last 48 hours there is nothing on a ford that makes sense to us.

seriously though i dont know, had to get a dig on the fords while i could.

if it's black smoke then you're running very rich... time to set it on fire and return it to the scrap heap ...

I'm a Ford guy...

The computer in the car is weird. If you are extremely low on gas it might be sucking air into the lines at occasion and conversly detecting a lean situation. It might have been compensating rich.

If it's a 95' you're still on OBD I. You can run the codes by looking at my site (www.midwestsho.com) on the lower left hand side where it says "troubleshooting". It's really easy and requires just a paperclip.
