ok so three guys got a hotel room 3x10=30 they each paid ten dollars each. then the lady at the desk charged them too much and gave the door man the 5bucks to run out to them but since the three men didn't know they were getting money back he kept two bucks and gave them each a dollar so its 3x9=27 and then add 2=29 where did the other dollar go?

gotsta subtract... can't add what the door man has to what the others paid...

27-2 = 25

Hotel clerk has 25 bux
Door man has 2 bux
each man has 1 dollar

3x1+2+25 = 30 :) (Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally, Parantheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction

10x3-3-2 = 30=5 = 25

so to figure out what each man paid you can't just look at (10x3-3)/3 you need to look at the entire thing... so the 3x27=9+2=29 is true but the missing dollar is because the rules of mathmatics weren't followed :)

Technically they initially paid $10 each ($30)...
Then were over charged $5 so they they should have only paid $8.33 each ($25)...
Then the door man pocketed $2 of the $5...
Then the door man gave each of the 3 guys a $1 back...
So in the end they technically paid $9.33 each ($28 total) and the $2 from the door man makes $30 :)
