I plan on replacing my struts soon, the front ones are making a distinct noise from the assembly. Should I use the current springs (55,000 miles) or should I buy new ones. I am a college student on a budget (like so many others) so the GMPP/Koni package is out of the question. Also, if I put the GMPP springs in stock struts, how long does it take for the bouncing effect of lowering springs to get bad.

If you run lowering springs on anything but Koni's you will want this mod:

Basically it replaces this metal retainer at the top of the strut mount with a different one that gets rid of the gap between the lowering spring and the mount. And the replacement part was just 7.50 per corner, not too bad!
