Is premium fuel necessary?

04 Comp G, bone stock. I've always ran only premium fuel in it since I got it in February. I don't drive it like an ashole, just a daily driver. Is this a waste of money and I can get away with regular or should I still keep using premium?

I would use premium. The car will knock like crazy on 87.

it can run on 87, but it will idle rougher and possibly knock more. owners manual says it is "safe" to but not recommended.

Meh, before I pullied down I ran 89 and saw no difference in MPG's.

Now that I think about it, I ran 93 with Intake and DP and still got whacked by a BONE stock GTP. I think it was smug's at 41, many years ago.

try to stay out of 4th till yer over 45-50mph

love to knock at the bottom of 4th gear (full load, low rpm)

it shouldnt be a problem but its one of those things where by yourself you probably dont need it, but then a trip with friends in the car would make you more knock prone so that trip id suggest staying away from the cat piss unleaded and hitup the high test juice

Knock out of boost is harmless, but still, if you ever stray into the happy pedal, 91+ is your friend.

I thought the car had multiple fuel maps and that running lower grade would just reduce performance. Ran 87 in an 02 gtp a few times. It was fine. Didn't beat on it just did normal driving. On normal accel with no boost what's the difference between a gt and a gtp?

is the $4-$5 savings tops per fill up worth the possable knock and preformance los and mpg loss really worth it. the mpg loss alone does not make it worth it.

Wait what?

Out of boost, the only difference between an L36 and an L67 is the compression ratio. Which is lower in the L67 because it is boosted. Thus an L67 is less prone to knocking out of boost versus an L36.

Honestly if you never drive it hard you'll be hard pressed to notice a difference. But the second you stray into boost....
