I am curious about something. i have always heard that it isn't good to idle your car too long when it is cold because it isn't good for the engine. Can someone tell me why??

carbon build up in your cylinders and your plugs can foul out.
without the engine running a bit harder with acceleration and letting the cylinders truly heat up, they are prone to carbon build up.

i dont give a damn. carbon build up or not, when i start my car, the next time i get in it is when it is warm. regardless of how long, i want to be nice and toasty.

Which is also why some people run hotter plugs in the winter.

Also, I let my car warm up no matter what for at least 5 min before even moving it out of the driveway onto the street. My mom says that "water can build up in your gas tank," but there's yet to be any known incidents of problems associated with that.

Also, my car likes to hover around 4000+RPM, so I wind up burning the carbon up every weekend anyways from running my engine pretty hot.

Yes that's what I do.

hmmm... i jump in the car, start it up... put the window down and just drive away... once my window defrosts I put the window back up

I remote start it, wait about 7-10 mins. then get in! I sometimes remember to leave the heated seat on high and the heat at 90 degrees blasting. Sometimes the car will run for the alotted 15 mins. (not sure, I never timed it) then shut off.

I have remote start and start it up even though its in the garage Its sits on for about 10min...need to get that heater warmed up..

Hit the remote start, finish breakfast, have some coffee, kiss the fam good by and off to work in a nice warm car. I guess 15-20 minutes or so. One problem that I heard of is that you build up a lot of condensation in the exhaust and it tends to rot out quicker, thats my plan so I can upgrade

The main problem with long idling is fuel dilution in your oil. Fuel dilution breaks down your oil quicker. It also causes excess wear of your bearings.

Turn the car car on, jump in the shower, run out in my towel throw the pot of coffee on, then I do my makeup, blowdry the hair, get coffee, (still in towel), then drink get dressed, grab some lunch money from my mom hahaah, and leave.. hmm, bout an hr..
