P0742 Code?

Guys, the '97 Park Avenue Ultra my son drives just threw out a P0742 code which is a Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Stuck On. Car was shifting hard when he limped it home last night.

The car is low on trans fluid. I'll fill that first. Told him many times to monitor the fluids but he's 20 so, you know...

If filling the fluid doesn't work, how hard is it to replace that sensor (assuming it is the sensor and not the torque converter)? Do I have to pull the trans?

The torque converter clutch solenoid you may mean? It's behind the case side cover in the transmission. So pretty decent job. I would not just jump to that conclusion though

Easy, just remove side cover. Does it act like a manual when coming to a stop like forgetting to press clutch in? If so my guess is torque converter clutch solenoid.

Fluid was low. Added over a quart and cleared the code. No new code and trans runs fine except for a slight bump when shifting between 2nd and 3rd that appears to be getting better and better as we drive the car. Code has not reappeared. Hopefully the car lasts until my son decides on a new ride. I discussed the importance of checking fluids with him. We're going car shopping tomorrow.
