NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The city of Naperville plans to offer car shoppers a perk -- a test track that will allow them to thoroughly test-drive vehicles before they buy.
The city says the track is part of plans to encourage people to buy cars in Naperville and bring more sales-tax dollars to the Chicago suburb.
The track won't be ready for a while. The city has spent more than $2 million to buy land near several car dealerships.
Among the features being considered for the track are a low-speed slalom course and an area to do controlled skids to test anti-lock brakes.
Assistant City Manager Julie Carroll says the plan won't go forward until at least 10 of Naperville's 18 auto dealers agree to share the costs of maintaining the test track.
