Ive got to do an oil change soon. Should I use any high mileage stuff?

I'm at 110,000 miles. No leaks (have been fixed). In the winter I run 5w-30 (vs 10w-30 in the summer). I usually just buy the cheapest name brand at wal-mart (penzoil, castrol etc). I generally keep it dinosaur oil as I usually ride out that oil until the very early spring. Should I use any of the high mileage stuff?

yes it does mater

the "high mile" oils typically have seal swellers to minimize oil leaks on old engines

just get std dino juice and if you can find it in 5/30 or 10/30 use diesel oil with its better high pressure lubricants the new api SJ oils no longer provide due to zink "killing cats"

id rather kill a cat than use shitty oil

High mileage oils supposedly don't "burn off" as quick. They accomplish this by being slighly thicker. There is a range of viscosity within a weight catagory and these oils are on the thinker end. In other words, a high mileage 10W-30 is slightly thicker than a normal 10W-30.

I'd keep doing what you are doing.

I'm at 274000 on the Jeep and I use Shell's Rotella 10w-30. It doesn't matter if you use high mileage stuff or not.

110000 high mileage? That's mid-mileage these days.

Rotella 10W-30 in the white car.
Rotella 15W-40 in the Turbo car.
Rotella T6 15W-40 in the Diesel.

I always use HM above 75k and have had good results. The Burb has 167k and I just went from 5w30 HM to 10w40 HM and the ole 454 seems to be responding well.

I have heard very good things about the Rotella.

as soon as you switch to a non high mile oil the seal swellers will leach out and all the oil leaks will get worse. its just not worth it unless your selling the car and it has a leak or two.

stick to regular dino juice and if your wanting extra protection add a small amount of zddp/breakin lube.

Regular rotella is about 14bucks a gallon and great oil for high mileage engines. I has 296k on my ranger and used rottella its entire life and never smoked or used a drop of oil

royal purple is $45-50 for 5 quarts.

Diesels take so much oil, the prices have to stay low.

i use high milegae Mobil 1 because of the higher ZDDP additives that protect against wear.

sits in a jug for a year, everything settles out, reuse
