i are tired.
442's in capable hands. he's done more than a few first gen W's...

pushed it off the trailer and turned and burned lol

got to see steve at legends new car and its new body as we dropped off the pile of 2nd gen W parts and parts ive made up so far for the trans plates/CC plates, etc.

that body is sooo nice, would make shit sooo much simpler to work on if we could have a fiberglass flopper body on the 442

pile of parts/mounts/etc.

cabin will be pretty standard afair for the most part aside from more interior room due to lack of longitudinal trans/driveshaft. we only have to fit an 8" dia resonator/muffler.

our body isnt getting chopped or anything so it wont be built with the drivers ass 2" off the ground either

the front is almost the easy part, front and rear 3800/80e combo's have 3/8ths motor plates at each corner so all mounting will be identical front to rear with adjustment for axle centerline changes. and of course its being built more like a pro touring car in some regards with the additional bracing.

good news is since its just a shell the rusty drivers rocker panel is no problem...its getting cut out anyways

he said he was looking for a challenge and its now mostly his headache now.
and i quote "its gonna be light as hell"

im taking a shower and going to bed

looks like ride height will be built at 3.5"

with the LCA tabs/upper strut mounts, it lets us go down to 2.5 for serious at the track stuffs, and up to 4.5/5" for when we take a 4wd cutlass to moab or drive it on our lovely chicago roads.

car is now down to the skin. main chassis/cabin is starting to take shape.

Hairy glass is making the new doors/windows. so nice of GM to make the OEM hinges easily converted to lift off....so we can swap out nearly 150lbs of weight savings for power windows and mirrors.

picked up the rear engines 3.48fdr 4t80e, 2000 with the smaller PMS for the 04+ DBW controls/trans logic. about the only custom parts will be the shorter axle shafts, though it appears to be quite easy to make the 2ndary pump more active and raise main line pressure. at the least its easy enough to just do the std spacer trick on the accumulators.

donated a buncha the old parts to the Nova...not like we can use em...at least the parts will finally run 10's

engine parts are all here, just need the other sfi damper and billet flex for redrilling to the 80e pattern.
we cant do much for the cooling modules till we have final dimensions of the chassis (with how well the cressida's setup turned out, we can keep the rear setup as part of the dropout. this limits the connection points to electrical and the Fuel lines for removal of rear powertrain.

OEM stuff has been reduced to the powerplant harness/PCM's. looks like we will be running 3 painless setups for separate F/R primary systems and the third dedicated to the chassis with 4 relays reworked for the power windows and door locks.

...a continuing argument...what color should it get...im wanting the original medium adriatic blue, keep it stock appearing from affar, but we keep going back to the gold/HHO livery...

id love to see the cage in the back/gold hammertone though...

If a car is just a tube frame and a skin.. is it really that car anymore?

One of the gripes I had with the ZZP/Intense blue cars.. Not really a grand prix anymore.

Still a cool project tho. Way more work and effort then I'll put into anything in my life.

I'd say since the car is now 5% original, might as well go with whatever colors you
want and get it the way you want now instead of having it together and being like
shit, i wish i went this color instead of that.

ah, good point...then id guess since the original hairy was just the shell it wasnt a 66/67 442 either...so at least we are paying homage to the original lol

cars evolve as the weak links are found and fix'd, the OEM stuff is too heavy and not designed around having two powerplants. we either keep shooting ourselves in the foot making the imperfect work, or we nip it in the bud.

its still a 94 olds cutlass, heavily modified (as it was before) into a twin drivetrain car...just with all the info we've learned and headaches we've dealt with for the last decade weeded out.

the car is still going to look as stock as a pro mod cutlass can be....thats why i want it to be in the OEM color...just sucks with how expensive the paint is....

would you consider the Woijtek/SDD dragwhore as a GP?

still had the oem floorpan/firewall/sheetmetal from the rear rocker panel crossbeam to the front.

even kept all the oem parts and geometry on the rear suspension/struts.

would you have considered it a GP before the chassis when it was a GP with almost everything hacked out of it like yours?

the argument is endless really... but considering we are an appearance based society, id say it is lol

Are you actually building it for a certain class or just to go zoom zoom ?
If not really building it to compete in some class for $ prize winnings and
all that bracket stuff, I'd say go with whatever then

the closest thing we can find is exhibition.

its being built so we have a nice foundation for the next few decades of zoom zoom on the street as well as the track...as we work down to the 7's....still has AC....so streetcar

as for local races....id think the 4 28" tires would put us in gangster sr?

Zero clue who you are talking about... but for me, if it still has stock
shell/frame/ect of the car, original type powertrain, ect then i'd like to say
yet it is.. Just if its a gutted car, its just a gutted turd by then. Which
I am fearing of doing to my own turd box.

the rolling chassis was at 1700lbs sans motor/trans. full chromoly backhalf/forward cage, even down to tie ins at the subframe mounts and the strut buckets.

was built for a turbo/NA topend L67 with an 80e. no OEM dash but it had mounts for the cluster itself lol,

it was a gutted turd before then though...i wanna say they got down to the low 12's with a SC setup as they hacked it apart. ron vogel was right on the money about weight being our biggest enemy lol he managed 11.9x with just rockers...panda RV racing

i just ran into ron at mcmaster the other day too!

Ah... so pretty much a drag car setup. In reality, once it comes down to
a drag only car, anything really just goes. I am just a douche sometimes

Who knows, once I get to the point weight is my only last thing i can do, Ill be down that same road of going full tube frame and just a outside shell job.
I am still over 3000lbs before driver. I probably only have 200lbs at MAX
that can be cut out before I have to give in and goto the extremes.

Shit who knows.. Maybe one day I'll give in and get on the twin engine
band wagon. I plan on having this for a long time if possible.

i figured since i found this over the weekend ya'll would like to see it.

you'll notice the terrifying tornado is on there...how Hairy didnt make that list beyond a mention is suprizing... it never killed joe schuebeck...but it tried...2-3 times

now some of ya can see why we are going all out on the 442.

Quote:
9.) John Smyser’s Terrifying Toronado – If there are a couple of terms in drag racing’s history from the 1960s and 1970s that should tip you off to imminent failure, “four wheel drive” is one. Other than Tommy Ivo’s “Showboat” it never really ended well.
Adding multiple engines with multiple transmissions to the mix only adds a nice layer of frosting to the fail cake. John Smyser was a successful fuel dragster racer before he was bitten by an idea of building a wild twin engine, four wheel drive Olds Toronado powered by a pair of 425ci engines. Apparently the front engine was hooked to an automatic transmission and the rear engine was hooked to a traditional twin disc clutch.
The good news for Smyser is that his first appearance at a strip with the car in 1966 went great. The main reason is that he only displayed the car and didn’t run it. The next weekend he took the car down the track and on that first run the photo to the left was taken. This was at Irwindale and apparently the car completely left the ball yard and was making enough steam that people in the stands started running for their lives. He didn’t get to the stands, but it was close enough. There were a few more disappointing laps during 1966 and then 1967 happened.
The car made one more appearance where a near mirror situation occurred but this time it smashed through the guardrail at the top end of the track, was virtually destroyed and never saw the light of day again. Smyser had to have been lamenting his decision to leave the fuel ranks for that car. The Hurst Hairy Olds was more famous but equally as pissed off and also led a short life.
and im sure ive already posted the video of the HHO's first wreck...

been doing a buncha work, got the upper strut mounts setup, couple final pieces to do.
been making tabs for the windows and 1/4 20 tabs for the removable wheel liners.
working on the LCA's meow...looks like we're good to about 42klbs at each corner with the strut mounts and new parts..."ya'll are building this like its a tank" as wally put it
weak links are the struts and knuckles.

on the left youll see the adjustable foot for the 65e trans brace im working on.

haha! finally managed to snag a couple deals on Clist for our heaps. met a real nice fella, Ed, a "retired racer" some sweet shit in his garage
picked up a steal of a deal on
2 heli latches, charging posts, helmet and steering wheel hooks, 4" prowerks fill cap for the icebox, sweet alum steering wheel/disconnect with a switch...and a dial in board
i kinda wanna use the steering wheel in the cressida since it looks sorta like some of the older jap stuff
probably shoulda bought the hotside bends i need...but ya cant pass up the deals when they roll through...

lol

btw want the part number for the monoball stud for the W knuckle lower ball joint?

it lets you correct the roll center adjustable to nearly a full inch lower than OE. the press in part crosses to K6145 and the press in sleeve OD looks to be about perfect to just nest into the end of the zzp LCA's and get welded into place...press in the joint and set the roll center height and yer done.

UB Machine Inc.
part number 40-4921
what youd want would be here:
UB Machine Inc.
part no: 40-3130
weld in sleeve for press in lower. remove OE ball joint and weld it to the curved portion of the zzp BJ plates
UB Machine Inc.
part number 40-3301 or 3306
the tie rod end number looks to be 40-4203 but i need to call and double check
