According to my "mechanic" friend , 550 cca isn't enough for my GTP
I think he's FOS...He sold me a used battery knowing it was discharged, but doesn't want to own up to it.

Now i gotta buy a new battery, and was wondering what the minimum CCA is

Optimas arent the greatest either. My yellow top is sucking balls.

annnnd mine is licking balls.

aka i llllove it.

i have had in the GP for 4 years, and had it in my lumina before that for two, i can turn my car on no matter how long it has been sitting, and however cold it is, and it starts instantly, also, in the summer, when i am installing stuff at peoples homes, i leave teh doors open and jam out to the stereo, and have never once had to jump it, and have left it on for a very good amount of time (3+ hours) bumping.

i did also buy the best optima money could buy since my work is a dealer for the boat ones...

don't call me a cheap-ass because i don't want to blow over $100 for your elitist battery in a car i may not have for 2 more years just weeks before Christmas.

the fuck is your problem?

take it out of your car and put it in the new one? :dunno:

Call the parts store, see what they recommend and ask how many CCAs the battery has, solved... Or the dealer, or look up some batteries online?
Even with my dealer discount, AC-Delco 75 and 78-series batteries, with core return [$12], are about $90 before tax..

The original 75-series batt that came with the car lasted 7 years

From my original post - "what's the minimum CCA a GTP can use?"

P.S. Optima's are [DoOKie]. I put one in my T/A one summer because it was supposed to be the best. That winter, I replaced it 2X because it wouldnt start on a 24 and 36 degree day. It was then replaced by whatever VatoZone had on sale...which still works 5 years later. I'll let the first one go due to a defect, but 2 in a row? For $150+, I'll pass...especially when I have to replace it when the wind is blowing, snow is flying and I'm basically stranded in a parking lot.

the books at my work say a close to stock spec replacement battery for a grand prix has 700CCA minimum, and that is the "cheapest" battery you can put in.
it is getting harder and harder to find a good battery for under $100. hell our supplier just raised prices another $5.
but the way i see it is there is no reason to cheap out on a battery. if you plan to daily drive the car you will need it to start in the dead of winter, and that cheapo on special battery won't do it.

ZZP sells a race battery that only puts up 220 CCA and starts GP's without an issue

The battery is big enough, your alt may be bad, or the batt might just be dead.

it may be powerful enough in the warmer months, but i would be willing to bet it wouldnt last through a cold winter.
but i dont know anyone that runs a ZZP battery, nor do i have any experience with them.
