Where my jeep peeps? No reverse?

I've owned a few jeeps and hated them. One was too small, one the trans took a shit about 2 days after having it. However I did find a jeep from a friend for a really good deal. Mainly going to use it to move shit back and forth and take on side jobs that come in. So for that use it may come in handy.
Reverse stopped working. It's a 00 Laredo with the 4.0L.
Do these transmissions normally shit the bed with reverse first or do they commonly have issues with solenoids or something simple?

If I was looking at swapping in a new trans, are they pretty inexpensive to come across? Not looking to have it done at a shop for $1k+. Do it myself or toss a friend a few bucks to swap it out

i assume it's a grand cherokee? the 42RE trans is known for breaking the O/D snap ring, which will cause the it to lose reverse

are you any good with a wrench? the O/D unit can be removed with the trans still in the car. you just need a press. linked below is a great writeup on how to fix it.

Someone is saying its the aw4 trans. Do those have the same fix?
