I'd ask for pics of the Deck prepping process

I'm having them put on a edge cts2 with Pyro. Then, I'll just buy a sct4 from gearhead and get their tunes. If you buy their hardware, they knock $50 off the tunes.

But ficm tuning has me intrigued. I don't think any other companies have any ficm tuning ability. Maybe it'll help more with bigger injectors to keep it from smoking....

Is there anything I should specifically be looking for in the process?

Cts2 should have programming ability.

As far as prepping, if it comes back with a mirror finish and.bo staining, then metal was removed and we will have dealing issues. Just post the pics here and I'll check em out

I think it's only the insight pro version that can store tunes. Or am I wrong?

I guess I'll have to check with gearhead and see if they can, or if they can be upgraded.

So, the regular cts2 that costs $429ish is only a scanner.

The pro version is $649ish and has the ability to store and flash tunes. So, instead of spending $500 later on a sct x4 with tunes, I decided to just get the pro version with gearhead tunes for $345 more now.

Just got it back. Tuned on the "extreme" setting right now. Dammit, it is fun to drive. I love the straight pipe too. Nice and quiet at idle and cruising...sounds like ten Honda civics put together at wot.

Wish they woulda had you leave it stock for at least 500 miles to let the gaskets bake in, but oh well.

Glad to see your journey has just begun

I have to pull a couple light trailers today, so I'll be turning it down.

I do want to go to a drag strip sometime this summer to see what it runs though. I'm pretty sure it's faster than my ecoboost was.

ill gurantee it. at the highest of hot tunes you may feel some trans slippage. just keep the temps down and let her idle if trans get hots. but these are the strongest trans that have ever been put in a pick up, of course next to the 6R

Thats what I've been reading. The fluid looks clean and smells ok...but I have no idea when it was changed last, if ever. Is it something that should be changed with the filter? Or flushed?

I switched to the "unlimited tow" tune. It uses stock fueling, and should be good for pulling anything I want.

So I hooked up to my enclosed trailer which weighs about 5k. Pulled it through some hills. Going up one of the bigger hills, the wrench light came on and I lost a bunch of power. I pulled over, checked the code. It was for turbo overboost. I shut it off and restarted, and everything went back to normal.

So, from what I've been reading, the most common problem causing that is the turbo vanes sticking, causing at least 29 psi. This morning, I started scanning vgt and went for a drive empty. The most pressure I saw was 22-23 psi with 15%vgt while manually placing it in 3rd gear and flooring it from about 2000 rpms to 3500.

So maybe, since the previous owner never pulled anything, it had some soot on the vanes that caused it to stick, and it cleaned itself. But I will be watching it.

I have to pull the trailer on Monday again into what is supposed to be a strong wind with up to 50mph gusts. So if it's going to happen again, Monday would be the day.

I was thinking about that too. But, I'm definitely going to be watching it on Monday to see if I can replicate it. If it's really only hitting 29psi and popping the code, I'll have to email gearhead and see if they can do something about it.

I got my enclosed trailer where I needed to go today. I was pulling directly into a sustained 30mph wind with 50mph gusts. Didn't have any problems or any codes pop up. Highest boost I saw was 27psi for a little while.

I'm really liking the frame and suspension on this f350. My f150 or silverado would have been downright scary pulling this trailer today.

I can definitely tell it was pulling hard though. I couldn't pull it in 5th with the convertor locked, unless it was downhill. It stayed in 5th unlocked or 4th locked most of the trip.

Ect actually broke 200 for the first time too. It stayed at 205-215 for the entire trip. Eot was 5-10 higher than that for the trip as well.
