Default Chicago could soon test universal basic income program

Chicago could soon test universal basic income program | Fox News

Chicago alderman Ameya Pawar recently proposed legislation that would provide 1,000 families with a $500 monthly stipend -- no questions asked. The bill already has the backing of the majority of city lawmakers, and Pawar hopes to soon work with Mayor Rahm Emanuel to implement the pilot program, The Intercept reported.

I think you know the answer to that already.

I'm just hoping it comes from a Chicago based tax and not a Cook County based tax.

Tax me so I can pay universal income to myself?

Moving out of IL is what I'll pay for.

.

Already tried & failed, besides being one of the most idiotic liberal leech ideas since electing proven corrupt criminals like "rapist bill" & nominating "never POS crooked hillary"

There was bad news for Finnish freeloaders this week. Their government will no longer pay them to do nothing.

The country’s two-year experiment with a universal basic income was scrubbed. That won’t mean much to people around here, but it is a blow to the concept of Government as Sugar Daddy.

That should mean something to people in America, where the thought of money for nothing is gaining popularity.

Tech giants like Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk have expressed support of universal basic income. They say it’ll be needed when robots take over the workforce in 15 years and nobody has a job.

Politicians like Bernie Sanders are on board, saying it’s a step toward income equality and fairness that is missing in our capitalist economy.

If Musk and Zuckerberg believe in it so much.....how come they arent giving their money away to people monthly?

Facebook or Tesla UBI programs are nowhere in sight...... You know why? BECAUSE WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME??? AND AS POPULATIONS INCREASE???

The government would be better off making food, power and housing extremely cheap or free instead of providing UBI for people....

Hey genius politicians...you don't need UBI if people are provided the basic necessities. Then you have people work in those municipalities that provide the free resources, to be given an income to buy other non-necessity goods. You work for wants, not to survive. All non-necessity goods have a tax that would pay for the free resources.

This would also require a complete rework of the government, taxes, utility companies, etc....but this is how I would go about a "UBI" scenario.

Totally. Sometimes you need to trash it all and start from scratch, but I don't ever see it happening with our government.

Maybe a group of super rich will buy a country and start there

Looks to me like 1,000 people get the money. Who picks them?

I would not be surprised to see the 1,000 are a bunch of friends and family of Chicago politicians.

Seems like a great way to butter up some piece of the democratic base before the election. How about dumping that money into the pension funds for the employees and perhaps your school budget so the whole state doesn't have to bail their asses out again?

I think it's a great idea. One step closer to bankruptcy for Chicago, might as well just get it over with. Then maybe chicago could become its own state. The State Of Lincoln. It could be a true liberal utopia.

It always makes me laugh when they put the collar counties into "Cook State." I mean, why the fuck would the collar counties want to be part of Cook? If anything they'd want to be a third state with the non-collar counties being the last one. Shit I'm sure that the red part of the state wouldn't mind getting their voices heard for once in elections.
