Smile TCG Tour 2018 Route Planning

Tour is going to go down on September 21-24...

That being said I'd like to start talking route. I have a general overview mocked up. Bru has taken a look and agrees is good but needs refinement. He did say this is a bit different than what he has done as we are more stop oriented than road oriented. We still have some good driving in there and plenty of mile, but we are trying to touch on automotive history/Detroit on this trip.

Day 1 a driving day and includes Hell Michigan which Bru informed me is where North American Car of the Year used to take place. I am planning for us to stop in South Bend for lunch, yes near Notre Dame Stadium, and a tour in the afternoon at an RV factory. We will end up in Ann Arbor.

Day 2 is Detroit Day. I'd like to cruise my MI stadium on our way out of town. We are going to do the Ford Rogue Factory tour then drive through Detroit to see some sites. I need to figure out the logistics on this as well as lunch. If you have suggestions let me know. Things I have in my head are Joe Louis Monument, GM Ren Cen, Bell Isle, Packard Plant, Woodward Ave, and maybe even the old Pontiac Silverdome.... Not sure if they still have a sea of VWs there. That night I plan for us to stay in Brighton.

Day 3 is about Car museums (2) and driving. We get some good roads and some nice miles in. We end the day in Kalamazoo where we can celebrate the end of the tour at Bells Brewery (and perhaps others).

Day 4 will be your laid back drive home day. Lunch stop and some driving in the morning. We could make a stop at the Dunes and cruise the circle road that hugs the lake. It really seems like most people are looking to shoot right home on day 4 so I hesitate to plan much unless the group is really interested. as it stands right now the entire route will stay under 1000 miles for all but the farthest participants.

Also with ending in Kalamazoo this could be a 3 day for those that want to. They give up the nice evening, end of the tour partying and have a long day of driving but its totally do-able.

Right now I need two major things. I could use some help finding our three hotels so we can get those locked in and if anyone wants to throw out constructive ideas please do. If there is someone out there that wants to go all in and get in on the full plan I'm willing to share that with a couple people, but too many chiefs gets messy way too fast.

Thanks in advance for your help,

John

what highways are we coming in on in all these towns?

Ann Arbor hotels look super expensive for what is left(weird that alot are booked now), so we need to look a town or 2 over.

Mostly side roads over highways, like usual, Like I said above not really wanting to share the full route at this point because it is still being planned. Just looking for some input and volunteers. Thanks

PS, University of Michigan plays that weekend so yeah we are going to have to change towns. I will adjust accordingly.
