got a 3.4 v6 impala, 2002, with a ticking noise at idle. coming from center of engine/valve area.
pulled the VCs and no visual damages to rockers or springs. my next guess is lifter is crushed? its noticable at idle and seems to go away once driving, so its something thats not getting oil pressure at idle.
is lifters going out in these things common? car came in before with a mysterious misfire code in the back cylinders, car just had plugs and wires done with fuel cleaning. then came back few weeks later with th CEL. Talked to one buddy at a local shop that says they see alot of them come in with broken valve spring or lifter that causes the misfire random codes.
am i leaning towards lifters? customer doesnt really wanna tear apart motor unless we gotta.
thanks
