Default TCG Spring Track Day - Saturday, May 1st - Byron Dragway

7287 River Road
Byron, IL 61010

The TCG Spring Track Day has been announced! On Saturday, May 1st, the Garage will be holding its 3rd annual Spring track day at Byron Dragway.

We are looking into some other good shit for the weekend so stay tuned for updates on that. We will be planning a rain date...I will have that for you guys once I talk to Byron again.

So start requesting off work, pull the car covers off, get wrenching and get ready!

Pricing for TCG:
  • $25 to race ($5 off - make sure to mention you're with us)
  • $10 spectator (normal rate)

Trophies will be awarded for:
  • Fastest RWD
  • Fastest AWD
  • Fastest FWD

Below is a sample of the trophy. Final product will have a different insert and custom engraving. 10 inches tall. I'll update the thread when they get here.

In order to be awarded for the categories, you must follow the below rules:
  • MUST be a registered member of TCG
  • Time can be run clocks on or clocks off. If you run clocks off, you MUST find me at Byron and give me your best time (or the time you wish to submit).
  • MUST be able to provide award winning timeslip
  • MUST attend, at the least, the Titled Kilt after party for award ceremony (working on getting that setup, nothing big...just some womens to help present )

*If you are unable to attend after party, please find me before the end of the track day and let me know. We should have a good idea of whos winning what by track close.

Quote:
Dragstrip Etiquette

1. Remember some tracks do not allow burnouts on street tires. If they do don't start your burnout until directed by an official. He'll usually give you some sort of hand signal. Also make sure you are all the way on the track and facing directly forwards.

2. Don't do burnouts in the water with treaded street tires. Water gets into the treads and tracks all the way to the starting line. This makes the drivers with slicks very angry. It won't help you're 1/4 mile times either.

3. Don't do a John Force-style burnout (i.e. spinning the tires through and past the starting line, forcing you to back up) unless you don't have any front brakes and/or you are John Force.

4. If you are bracket racing, don't lock up your brakes at the end of the track in an attempt to not "break out". Locking 'em up at this speed could be very dangerous. This isn't an issue for test-n-tune nights, but be sure you leave plenty of room to brake at the end of the track without doing a massive ABS stop.

5. Some tracks employ a courtesy rule. This means that the first car into the staging beams should light only the pre-stage light. When the second car is is pre-staged, then either of you can move up slightly into the staging lights.

6. Make sure your numbers and dial-in (if applicable) are visible from the tower.

7. Make sure you get in the right staging lane, and make sure that you don't attempt to run in a class where your car would not be appropriate (e.g. you probably shouldn't end up racing a junior dragster in your Impala). Ask if you are unsure.

I though 'verts only needed a roll bar at 13.49 and a cage at 11.5. Not that it really matters as far as passing tech at Byron goes, I've never had a problem.
