Default Weight Matters

Weight Matters – Corner Weighting Your Car Properly Yields Better Handling and Faster Lap Times, so Here’s How to Do It on a Budget

Quote:
The vertical loads on your tires have a huge influence on how fast your car can go around the track, and how it responds to your driving style. Those tire loads go up and down from static values that can be measured and adjusted, and those adjustments can dramatically change your car’s behavior. Let’s dig into how and why some quality time in the garage can sharpen your performance at a nice price.

If your car always understeers when turning left and oversteers when turning right, or if the same tire always locks up first while braking, those are signs that you may have a crossweight problem that can be fixed by measuring and adjusting the static tire loads. You can also learn a lot about why your car handles the way it does if you know what the four static tire loads are.

If you ever want to be super frustrated with your car and have very little progress. Corner weight your chump/lemons car on a garage floor that isn't level.

On the list to do this for my Mazda3 if I can borrow our teams scales in time.

my cousin takes corners on 3 wheels most of the time, but dirt track racing is a little different.

I laugh my bloody ass off when behind 3 wheelers, with the brakes applied that 4th wheel is just stopped and hanging out through the turn

Most fwd cars will pick up a rear wheel if you put a big enough rear sway bar on them. A lot of the BMWs when pushed hard will pickup the front inside wheel also which is really odd to watch

i see 3 wheel most often on fwd cars at autox.

i'm under the impression i suck far too much for the corner weighting to matter.

The ST used to do it all the time.

I don't know if the RS would. But then again, its still got about 60% on the nose, so it could.

I fell like this is a benefit if you have time and money on your hands, but otherwise for the weekend warriors most of us are, a waste of money and time.
