My problem with the car is the weight, everything else is fine.

As far as price, what the hell are people complaining about? My 2004 Cobra stickered for $36,000. Three years later a car with 110 more hp and tons more torque cost $4,000 more. What gives? :dunno:

Where can you get a nice 500 hp car for $40k?

It's a heavy pig....other than than I like what you get for your money.

Sirius = $195 (MSRP), $170 (invoice).
Premium Trim Pkg = $595 (MSRP), $518 (invoice).
Shaker 1000 = $1,295 (MSRP), $1,127 (invoice)

Those are the only options that I've heard.

seriously... if you were in the market for a $45K "sports car" which would you choose? a C6 Vette or and GT 500 Mustang?

hrrm... not really a tough choice for me....

C6 all the way

People are complaining because:

 1. It's heavy as hell, with a solid axle (not the vehicle specific IRS that was originally stated)
 2. That 500HP is not under rated like the '03/04's... as a result the real hp disparity is about 75, not 110hp
 3. based on 3 magazine tests, it only runs 12.7 - 12.9 @ 112-117
 4. it's not the 'Vette killer most of us had thought it would be
 5. the dealer mark up is insane
Mark my words, within a year of full production the GT500's will selling at or below MSRP.

They're building 9,000 of these the first year... and around 11K the second year...

as for saying that the '03/04 Cobra was $36K

no offense to those that paid sticker or more for their car... but I would never pay anything close to that amount. In my opinion the '03/04 weren't worth more than $30-32K+TTL

I know most of you will argue otherwise but that's my opinion. sorry if I disagree with the majority.

case in point, my cousin purchased his brand new left over 2003 Cobra with 84 miles on the odometer for $22,800+TTL... my buddy bought his brand new '04 for $28,000 + TTL

and yes I do realize that used Cobra's are going for $28-32K currently.

Like I said, I may not be right, but that is my opinion.

That is currently my attainable dream car.

that car looks so damn sexy... I have dirty thoughts about it

but $65K+ is a bit steep for me

maybe if I sold all three of my cars, and chamfered my wife to work in the Z06

I don't think Cobras and Vettes were ever really meant to compete with each other, it's sort of evolving that way. One's a sports car, one is a pony car. The Cobra doesn't have it's "natural" competitor across the lot at GM at the moment (the high-po versions of the f-body), so people have climbed GM's ladder to the Vettes for comparison.

As for the pricing, the only thing you can really compare is sticker, because it's a constant. Dealer mark-ups or blowouts, depending on the circumstances, vary based on alot of factors. I didn't get robbed on my Cobra (or pay sticker), but I didn't steal it either.

BTW, I heard some other publication got a 12.2@117 out af a new GT500.

I realize that the GT500 isn't a direct competitor of a Vette, but it's priced that way... and they both have a similar purpose.

do you have a link for that 12.2@117

here's a 12.7@117 http://www.stangsunleashed.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1366

a 500HP car running high 12's is extremely crappy in my opinion.

I'll find it Jack.

About the times...well yea it's a heavy pig. ;) The GT500 at 3400 pounds would be a completely different vehicle. Ford dropped the ball on that aspect of the car.

I thought this stat was very interesting:

C5 Z06 - 355rwhp 3150lb = 8.87lbs./hp

GT500 - 440rwhp 3900lb = 8.86lbs./hp

Sounds about right. They'll both trap similarly in the 1/4 mile.

BTW, here's the link I saw:

All I can say about the GT500 is its coming out underwhelming. The 5.0 Mustang article was very low-key and you don't expect that from something being called the baddest Mustang ever. Yes, we are bcoming jaded by these high-hp cars with a/c, but by comparison they went ape sh!t over the Terminator and we thought THOSE were heavy. 4040# is a disgrace...and so are those hood vents. LOL

It's all supply and demand. If you want to be the first on the block with something in short supply, you pay a premium. Not just GT500's, any car. Same thing at the time for a stock 2005 Mustang GT (which was hardly an overwhelming performer).

Some dealers had a $3,000 "Adjusted Market Value" on Grand Nationals when I bought mine back in 1986. :dunno:

i wont ever pay that much money on that car because.

# 1 The looks on that car are nothing like the 03/04 cobra.

# 2 I don’t want to drive around in a car that says Shelby in the back

# 3 if I buy the car I would want to pulley and tune it right away but if the early run models have problems I’m screwed because I just voided my warranty

# 4 its way to heavy and they should put the IRS back on. Well I love mine at least.

I’ll keep my Terminator. :headbang:

You expect a driver for a magazine to get the best et possible with no practice and street tires????

Wait till Evan Smith gets a hold of one. :biggthump

Trapping 117 shows it has potential... Don't forget we have no idea what kind of air the test was run in. My trap speeds can vary from 116-122 depending on the DA and air temp.

The car is fat pig, no doubt, but I wouldn't call it crappy just cause some magazine driver can't drive.

I am still not selling my terminator for one though. :D
