Now that spring is upon us, a few folks @ work are starting to smack about their cars via email. I'm pretty straight forward in my email as my mods are slight, however, among the work family (vette, audi s4, evo, jag, etc...) comes a car that has never been seen @ work, but, talked about...

1987 Grand National

I know these cars... dig em' & respect em'

I have no reason to doubt him, but, thinking what this monster might do in the 1/4. Here are some very general specs.

- new short block
- new heads / cams
- new (unspecified spec.) turbo

RWHP thought to be 600+. Thing is... He couldn't look at me in the eye while he said that and he kinda laughed. Now I'm thinking it could possibley be well over 600.

He needs to put the engine in it now and shoud be ready in the not to distant future. So, anyone want to give me a very rough ball park 1/4 mile time?

600+ rwhp.......low 10's.

If it's truly 600 + and he can get it into boost off the line, it's gonna go 9's with a tire and suspension and driver behind it. 10's if he can barely drive and bottom 11's with the drummer from Def Leppard driving.

After writing my original post I went to the 4th floor and got some info...

- Stock Block all redone with new forged internals.
- Stock crank, but, internally balanced
- Aluminum heads
- Roller Cam
- GTQ71 Turbo (25 - 30lbs of boost)

I agree with both.

Depending on the turbo, 10's should be fairly easy with a nice front mount intercooler, especially with a built block, heads, and cam.

Those cars run in the 9's and 10's fairly easy on a true 10" tire.

That car's gonna lay down more than 600 to the tire with 25lbs I believe. With our little 281ci, we can lay down 800+ with 25lbs, so I would say that sixxer should lay down at least 650-700 on 25lbs. Car should be downright pissed off all the time.

No worries... I understand what you and Slash are saying. That is why I asked for a very rough ball park. Heck, teling me 9 - 12 seconds give me an idea of the capability, depending on driver, of the car.

well in my et calculator, i added in the 15% loss for 690fwhp (fly wheel) and estimated a 3700 lb car (not the lightest car in the world) and it came up with [email protected].

so basically the car is labeled as fast

My GN weighs less than 3400 (including the cage).

Chances are the guy T-Factor is talking about will have light rims and skinnies at a minimum.

No, it's Lloyd. He is one of our Cisco techs. Evidently he has a couple buds that are mechanics @ Marcos (sp?) - Supra dude's - shop. Very cool guy when I spoke with him. He wants a ride in the Cobra and although he said his #1 favorite car is the GN... #2 on his list is the Cobra :biggthump

Yes, I have seen that one on the highway. That thing MOVES! He got next to a Vette and just floored it (probably cruising at 80 and then just ripped it), the damn thing just squatted and FLEW away!
