I bought a Craftsman aluminum floor jack a few months ago. It's only a 1 1/2 ton jack but I was assured that would be enough to lift the Mustang. The jack has a quick lift feature where the arm raises quickly until pressure is put on it. This is nice because you only have to crank once or twice to get the jack up to the jacking point. It was made out of aluminum and looked good.

However, this model jack has several deficiencies In my opinion. The first one I bought leaked oil. I brought it back and exchanged it for another. The 2nd one had a tendency to suddenly let the car come down. I would crank it up, tighten it, let go of the handle and the car would drop. I ended up having to tighten the handle with a channel lock pliers. Finally, after a couple times of doing this, the handle became stuck with the car up. Using a channel lock to try to release the handle broke off part of the lifting mechanism. Another problem was that instead of having 4 casters, this jack had a roller on the front. The roller had a tendency to move the jack sideways during raising and lowering. I brought the jack back today and traded it in on a 3 ton standard model that also came with a creeper and pair of cheap jack stands.

So, in my opinion, think twice about purchasing this jack. I certainly didn't have good luck with the two I used. I don't want to go so far as to call them defective, but I have very little good things to say about it. In my opinion, this jack was not safe to use on my car.

Craftsman quality used to be real good. Thats a dangerous situation with the jack coming down like that. That very same jack is marketed under the name U.S. General and I have seen it elsewhere. I bought a cheap jack and I swear it only lasted a year. I finally dropped 200 on a nice one from Napa. The things built like a brick s***house and can lift 3 tons. Some of the jackstands are a joke too. Again spend the dough and get the good ones.

Sears has a yellow and black one that I bought on sale for $179 about 8 months ago and its a gem. 2 ton weight and quicklift and hydralic drop. It hasnt leaked yet and has the clearance to get under a C5 vette with the puck attached to it. See if you could possibly trade it for that one in Orland. You might have to pay alittle more for it but its worth it.

Hmmmm.... I have the 2-ton version of that jack (was only like $30 more at the time) and I have had absolutely no trouble with it. :dunno:

I thought about getting that one but was so turned off by my experiences with the 1 1/2 ton that I went with the standard 3 ton floor jack.

I have the Roush Racing one from Sam's, it's awesome! Since I got it, I've been able to fix the brakes on my parents two minivans, and various other things too. It fits under my car as well (low profile).
2 questons, how many tones will it hold, and 2 is it low enough to fit under a lowered cobra, IE how much clearance do u have under nieth ur car wen u use it? thanx
