kind of graphic...just a warning...

Just one day before St. Patrick’s Day, a dog that should not technically be alive was discovered in the trash.

The dog, a red Pit bull, had been starved to the brink of death. Someone, perhaps assuming that he had finally died, put his body in a trash bag and threw him down a chute inside of a 22 story apartment complex.

Had an astute maintenance worker not been paying attention, the slight movement that the starved dog made would have been missed – the bag containing his emaciated body would have been crushed inside of the trash compactor.

But Patrick has a will to live – enough will that he made his weary limbs move that day. The City of Newark animal control was contacted and they, in turn, contacted the Associated Humane Societies and Popcorn Park.

Patrick was rushed to the Humane Society where he received immediate veterinary care – including fluids, food and heated blankets to warm his gaunt body. He was then transported to the Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls -- a referral hospital with 24 hour emergency care.

Shockingly, the courageous dog survived the night – surprising the veterinary staff. He was able to receive life-saving transfusions and even enjoyed a bath.

There is no word at this time on the search for the depraved individual responsible for Patrick’s condition.

Does such a person have a soul? What would inspire someone to inflict such misery on another living being?

the owner was found and arrested, as well.

This is the reason I jump through all of the annoying hoops to get a rescue dog. The last 5 dogs we have had, have been rescues. Not all of them have been abused, but we have had two that were. It is horrible to see the psychological damage that follows them their entire life, but they are the sweetest dogs you can ask for. I may complain about dealing with the fanatical rescue coordinators, but it's worth it when I step back and realize what the adoption means for the dog

Having personally adopted a rescue pitbull and knowing that it is one of the best decisions I have ever made in life makes this really hit close to home. I just don't understand how anyone could even think to abuse an animal that badly, let a lone at all. I wish there would be justice done but I'm afraid these kinds of people get off with nothing as severe as they deserve.

Hope the bitch rots in hell.
