Yeah, I usually leave the GPS and calender widgets on too. As well as my roaming and back ground data. They say those two a huge drain. As well as 4G radio. I leave the 4G off as I don't really get any good reception out by me or my work in Naperville/Aurora area. Kind of sucks. And GPS I will turn off when I am at my desk most of the day. When I leave work I turn it back on. My screen brightness is also like 15% most of the time.

Like I said, I am happy with the battery life especially coming from the battery sucking Treo750 I had. Maybe there was a update that helped battery life out. Seems like 12-14 hours is becoming more common now.

New phones tend to be faster from the start, but after a decent amount of battery cycles, it'll depreciate in power. But turning stuff off you don't use, does indeed help.

no update has come out yet

its probably a case of the battery having enough cycles for people and it falling into a good rhythm.

if you want a good battery app, get juiceplotter. has a nice widget to tell you how many hours are left and it has a pretty slick app that plots battery usage w/ a graph.

Well if there have not been any updates yet I guess maybe it is the way people use their phones and the apps they have running.

Sounds like a nice app. I just have a basic battery app now. Will down load it and give it a try. Thanks

hmmmm, was probably going to get a new phone this weekend. Now I don't know if I want to drop the coin on the droid, but people seem to like it. I was going to go with one of the two cheaper options in the LG Ally or the Samsung Omnia II, although I've read some mixed reviews about those. Do you think I should just bite the bullet and go with the droid?

Oh just overall I'm not that concerned with the screenshot thing, I'm trying to determine if the initial cost is worth it

im guessing you are on verizon, and if so, go with the incredible if you are planning on any phone right now. you could wait for the droid x, but i honestly think the incredible is the nicer phone still.

Meh, the droid is coming tomorrow, leaps and bounds better than ANYTHING I've had before. I'm going from an LG Chocolate to a Droid, I won't use my phone for anything THAT hardcore, I'll use the GPS when my regular actually dies, and surf from time to time

God damn that thing is huge. Seriously, I wouldn't want it for that reason alone.

I think the Iphone is bordering on too big and I know both of those phones are much bigger. I wear big ass baggy jeans and even that would be uncomfortable in my pocket.

exactly right. I used to have a "smart phone" before my EVO. A Treo750. I didn't use that any where as much as my EVO. Not even a 1/4 as much. This phone is so much easier to use and light years faster. I find myself surfing the web on this more than my laptop now. GPS daily it seems along with email calendar, videos, music and more. So nice to have some thing like this with me at all times.

And I do not think it is too big at all. Especially compared to my thick and heavy Treo750. The X may be a little big though. Looks like a monster. lol

I was hoping ATT would get a decent Android phone so that I could actually give that a try instead of an iphone for once, but once again...ATT likes to LOCK DOWN their products. The HTC Aria has a few apps that ATT put as add-ons and locks it down so that it can't be removed nor get apps "outside" the marketplace. (which i'm sure there is always a way around). Kind of reminds me of how APPLE is with the iphone.

I miss the old days when you can buy a phone, do a couple tricks/hacks and the phone is unlocked to whatever carrier you want with the same type of network. Before, you used to be able to just hook up the phone with the computer and SIMPLY transfer files to a certain folder (that wasn't hidden nor locked), and extract the program. That's it. That simple. Now you have all these companies locking EVERYTHING down and wanting it THEIR way. I can understand on a business perspective, but I'm not in that type of business as I am their consumer.

I guess I just won't be messing with an Android anytime soon on the ATT network.

I guess I can always wait and look more into the Samsung Captive.

Anybody know anything about it besides the processor, camera, ect. Is ATT going to restrict this phone as well

A few specs: (and kind of looks promising on the ATT network)

* 4-inch Super AMOLED display
* Android 2.1
* 7.2Mbps HSPA
* 1GHz Hummingbird processor
* 5 MP camera (720p vid recording)
* 3.5mm headphone jack
* 16GB of built-in storage, with support for up to 32GB
* 802.11N Wifi
* Comes with Swype and AT&T Navigator

That's how it is with verizon and blackberry's. I can't use the GPS on my phone any program besides BBmaps. Google maps just gives me that bullshit "within 1500 meters".

I don't see the point in them doing stuff like that. For the majority of people that use the phone, they don't care and will use what's already on there. For all the tech nerds, they want to hack and tweak these things and these days that's making up a large percentage of smart phone users. So the provider that makes that easiest stands to gain a lot of business from the nerds.

enabling wireless N support on Incredible which is a froyo feature more or less which leads many to belive froyo is right around the corner. theres reports the desire will have froyo in 2-3 weeks and thats identical to the incredible so all signs seem to be pointing towards update very soon

droid X announced on verizon (officially)

Quote:
The Droid X is finally official! It's an impressively large smartphone with an impressive spec list

* a huge 4.3", 16:9, 854x480 screen (that's 400,000 pixels)
* HDMI out and DLNA
* 1GHz OMAP processor
* full Flash 10.1
* 8 gigs on board and a 16gig card included, but compatible with 32gig SD cards for a total potential memory of 40 gigs
* 512mb RAM
* 8 megapixel camera that captures 720p HD video
* Three microphones (outward-facing for video, noise-canceling, and regular)
* a 1570mAh battery, which should be good for a full day at minimum
* GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, naturally
* WiFi Hotspot with support for tethering up to 5 devices

Included video apps will include Blockbuster for renting or buying movies, V CAST video, NFL Mobile, Skype, and Backup Assistant. Skype Mobile will be "deeply integrated" on the Droid X. The software keyboard will support multitouch and use the excellent Swype keyboard by default. The Droid X will also have full support for Exchange push email, remote wipe, and other enterprise-class device management.

The Droid X will be available July 15th for $199 after $100 rebate. Data service will be $29.99 and mobile hotspot functionality will cost an additional $20 per month. Also, any Verizon customer whose contracts ends anytime in 2010 is eligible for the upgrade pricing.

Unfortunately, neither Flash nor Froyo will be included on the device at launch.
