One of the big things I worry about is getting a phone and then there being something newer and better come out right after I get it. I bought my BB 8330 and less than a month later the 8530 was out.

I'd also say I prefer a button keyboard, but my previous phone was an XV6500 or something and it had touch screen and keyboard. I used the touch screen a lot, but that might have just been cause the physical was so bad(sticking keys, etc).

no matter when you get a phone, theres always something newer and better. the nice thing now is, the "older" phones like the incredible is being considered by some is more or less the exact same phone as all the newest ones with smaller screen really, if you want to call 3.7" small. i mean sure theres something newer on verizon, but better, thats up to debate and always will be. ive read alot of droid x users coming back to incredibles cause they dont like the droid x, be it cause of the size etc....

like i said though, you can buy top of the line now and your phone will be trumped by a better phone within a few months most likely, but that newer phone will be nothing more than a one or two features different and hard to say if thats considered better in the end.

the biggest thing ive noticed with the latest batch of phones, especially android, the phones themselves are really not very different from each other, especially when they are all running the same version OS. one may be better at playing games but its not blow the others out of the water awesome, its also not something i take into consideration when buying a phone, i dont care about its game playing ability. beyond that though, you wont find a big difference between the evos, incredibles, droid x's and galaxy s's other than screen size and different screens themselves. that one of the biggest reason i love my incredible, amoled screens look awesome

What i've been liking so much about these androids though is that they are rolling out the same updates for everyone. Droid X has the same thing the Incredible does, but stronger hardware.

Also, I keep reading about Sense and MotoBlur. What are these?

as i said, the hardware being better on the droid x is very subjective really, alot of droid x users who came from the incredible cause they wanted the newest thing for some reason say the incredible is the faster phone when it comes to doing the standard shit you use the phone for.

Sense is the UI of HTC phones ex. incredible and the evo to name a few

Blur is motorolas UI that the droid x loosely runs, its not full on Blur that you will see on the motoblur but it has the same basic design but better. ive seen Blur on phones other than the droid x and its brutal looking, looked like a 2 year old made it. from what ive seen on the droid x, its alot better, but i still dont like anywhere near as much as Sense that comes on htc phones.

both of those are more or less "skins" that make the default android look more appealing and better in most regards. ive seen stock android look and it is really boring compared to sense

Ok. That's kind of what I thought it was. Basically a theme or skin.

Definitely going to scope out the Incredible first, then the Droid.

It is funny that most people seem to complain about the Sense UI. I didn't see the reason for people to hate it. I am with you, I think it looks and works real nice.

again, I agree with you. The only reason the physical keyboard is I could text easier with out looking at the phone. The touch keyboard I find myself looking at it more. But with the "voice" feature I find myself using the keyboard less and less. haha And things like Swipe are very useful.

The best thing is you have 30 days to test the phone out. I would say try a larger phone with a touch keyboard. If you don't like it you can change to a Droid 2, Incredible or any thing else with in that 30 days. Nothing to loose by trying it out.

more or less yes, its a theme, but it does alot more than that as it changes how the screens interact and how many home screens you have etc..

im using swype for my keyboard so i tend to have to look at it a bit more to make sure im coming remotely close to the keys i havent stuck with a keyboard long enough to have it memorized on the spacing of keys and such since they all have a slightly different layout it seems. the stock keyboard i could type away without issue but i wanted something different to try out.

I tried swipe for a day or so. Not a huge fan. I like the stock keyboard as well. Maybe if I stuck with Swipe more I would be better with it. But I can type faster and look at the keyboard less than the Swipe set up. Personal preference for sure. Nice to have several options though.

swype takes a bit to get use to, the first few days i was crawling with it, but now i can go just as fast as i normally do on stock keyboard. its nice cause even if you dont want to swype the keys, you can use it just like stock keyboard without issue which i tend to do once in awhile i wont lie

HTC EVO 4G owners rejoice: Froyo will soon be here!

When it comes to Android-based smartphones, the HTC EVO 4G has pretty much been the cream of the crop (that is until the Motorola Droid X came on the scene to share the spotlight). The phone features a fast 1GHz processor, large 4.3” display, front- and rear-facing cameras, and of course 4G access courtesy of Sprint's WiMAX network.
Tomorrow, however, the EVO 4G is set to get even better thanks to an Android 2.2 update according to Engadget. The update will be available tomorrow to customers that initiate the update via the phone's software update feature. The update will be pushed automatically to other EVO 4G customers starting the week of August 1.
In addition to the updates provided with Android 2.2 (Froyo), HTC also has included some new goodies of its own like the ability to use the LED flash as a flashlight and improved 720p video recording
You can read more about the Android 2.2 update for the HTC EVO 4G here.

Yeah, they cited that in the original story, that is why I jumped on board.

Good stuff, now if only I owned an Android device... In a few months I will hopefully have 2! (tablet and phone)

all the rumors suggest verizon will be doing it on the 6th, i wouldnt put it past them to announce something tomorrow or monday at the latest. they will want to push their shit out as close as possible to sprint so theres no "our phones run 2.2 and the others dont" bullshit. i dont care who gets it first at all, we all will have it sometime next week from what it appears. so its a win for anyone with an android phone in the end, thats the most important part

its raining froyo it seems

Quote:
We've just been dropped a brief note from Verizon that the original Droid will be getting the full Froyo treatment at some point next week. Considering the brevity of the announcement, it's entirely possible that this was thrown together in response to Sprint's EVO news -- but who cares? The more Android 2.2, the better, right? No official word on other Droid variants -- most of which are likely going to see Froyo updates soon -- but we'll be keeping our ears firmly planted to the ground.
