Computer/modem-router guys please

Our internet has been shitty for a bit. we have been using a Motorola SBG6580 (router/modem) for years.

we recently got an iMac and plan to be upgrading everything computer related. Today I purchased an Arris sb6141 (modem only) and a Nighthawk ac3200 router.

comparing the Arris sb6141 I purchased today and my 5+ yr old Motorola SBG6580, their numbers seem to be identical.

should I get a better modem?

can I use the Motorola SBG6580 with the router and return the Arris?

I have the 6141 and it gets me the speeds I pay for with a shitty netgear router. What kind of internet do you have? I dont know for sure if you need a DOCSIS 3.1 to get higher than 300MPBS speeds or not.

Xfinity plan says up to 60mps. I don’t know shit when it comes to this.
