Now that warmer weather is here, my bedroom (on the 3rd floor) gets nice and toasty if I'm not running the ac. I want to put a ceiling fan in but unsure of the costs. I've got tall ceilings throughout the house, dunno if that comes into play. Anyway, this would include cutting into the ceiling, bracing it, wiring for fan, etc.

What am I looking at, ballpark.

You're probably looking at about $200 for the install, give or take, and another $100 or so for the fan, depending on how fancy of a fan you're getting.

Think your shooting a little low there. Pretty sure they will have to open the ceiling being he doesnt have an attic. Your looking at $200 just in drywall/paint repair after the fan is installed.

honestly, Gamble's estimate seems low, if there's not electrical there now, and no access to where it's going to be, wiring could be fun... and to be "done right" "they'd" probably want conduit ran to where it's going to be.

sidenote... home depot's special buy of the day is for ceiling fans today.

Yeah its going to be more involved without an existing box. If you're in Cook everything needs to be in conduit. I mean just cost for parts, figure $20 for a ceiling fan rated bracket/box, $20-50 for conduit, wire, the control switch. ~$60+ depending on how fancy of a ceiling fan. Labor? not sure.

if youre feeling a little bit hillbilly, i suggest screwing a 18" long 2x6 to the ceiling joists, mounting a regular ass box to it, and running a extension cord out of the box, across the ceiling, and down to an outlet.

thats your cheapest option.
