Anyone ever do a one way rental car?

Hey guys,

Anyone help recommend a good company to use for a one-way rental car? I will be going from LA to SF later this month and some of these quotes I seen were ridiculous... Didn't think these bigger companies would charge a fee for something like this.

25 yrs old, Male, clean driving record.

Any tips or leads on a good company to use? Would love to hear from those who've done something like this before along with a price to expect to pay.

I did a one way from Milwaukee to Chicago through National and it wasn't very expensive at all. Bit of a shorter distance between the two though.

I did a two day one way minivan with Enterprise a couple weeks ago from Philly to Chicago. Moving the daughter back home from school.
I arranged it a week in advance and got a 'troop car'. Basically, some cars are owned by individual franchise locations and they want them back. Troop cars are owned by the corporation and wander all over the place.

3 days with drop fees and full insurance I think it was about $350.00 after taxes, etc.

enterprise local offices typically hate this shit because their cars are "their cars"

so they are super reluctant to do it/typically give FU prices.

Yeah it wasn't bad when we did it in Florida from airport to airport. Maybe 40$ a day for a car?

I don't think Hertz charges a drop fee for one way. At least they didn't when we were looking in September.

I already have my Turo rentals booked for when I'll be in LA and SF. I just need to rent a car for the 6 hour ride from LA up the the bay area so t'll only be for a day.

I plan on renting the car from LAX airport and dropping it off at the SFO airport. I was just shocked that the price quotes I received was more than my rental car in LA for 5 days...

I will continue to search and inquire with the companies that are at the airports.

yeah that sounds fun, buy some $400 beater from some guy in the hood in LA to drive legally for 6 hours with insurance, in unknown territory without tools, to just try to get rid of it at the end of the trip.

I've done this a few times through Budget renting a car in Ft. Lauderdale and dropping off in Ft. Myers. I don't recall the price being more for a one way.

I've done this a handful of times at airports. Whenever I've had to go to Nebraska, I usually fly into Lincoln and leave from Omaha. It's usually just a small upcharge. I've done that in New York also between JFK and LaGuardia.

Rented an Audi A4 from Alamo to drive from Phoenix to San Diego. No complaints and it was decently priced.

Airport to airport enterprise is the way to go for this. I’ve had to do it for work a couple times.

I believe I used Hertz 1 time for this.
Rented a car, drove to St Louis to buy my frontier. My brother returned it @ the Hertz location in the airport. One of the salesmen brought him back to the dealer.

Just wanted to follow up

Ended up going with Enterprise and rented a nice 2016 Nissan Sentra. Made it to SFO from LAX with a full tank of gas. $51 for the 'day' rental but after the taxes and gas it came out to a ~$106. Not bad!
