Need to hang brackets in the garage. What’s in here?

I made some 1/4” steel brackets so I can hang some steel tube or wood 2x4s. I would like to attach it to this beam that goes across the garage. Any idea what’s inside? It seems it’s hard as fuck or hollow. My stud finder isn’t helping either
Any tips?

My guess is going to be some type of engineered header. Did you drill any pilot holes to see? That would be my first move, just pick an inconspicuous spot or the place you want to hang the brackets. The hole doesn’t have to be large, I would pick something sub 1/8”

I will check it out. I ordered one of those scope cameras.
I mounted the 2x4 there for the door opener and with wood screws it held in place so that’s what confused me is if there was wood there too. I did drive in some 3” lag bolts for piece of mind.
These brackets are probably 10-15 pounds each plus whatever will be on them. So I want to make sure I do it right. If that means I have to run a 12” threaded bolt then that’s what I will do

It may not be steel, it could be microlams (engineered header). If you drove 3” lags in I bet that is what it is.
