Chicago is the murder capital of the country by numbers, PERIOD. It's not even close.

You can sugarcoat it all you want, it's a shithole. It also is the highest in car jackings, among many other crime statistics.

Even though it has more murders than any other U.S. city every year, is Chicago's violent reputation entirely justified? Nonprofit news outlet The Trace released a report showing homicide rates per 100,000 residents in major U.S. cities over the past five years, finding that Chicago is nowhere near the top of the list. Between 2010 and 2015, the Windy City had 16.4 murders per 100,000 residents while St. Louis and New Orleans had homicide rates far higher on average. While the absolute numbers certainly show Chicago has a massive problem on its hands, this metric does mitigate the risk factor to some extent, showing that many other large U.S. cities are far more violent.

Despite its reputation, Chicago didn't have the nation's highest per-capita (murders per 100,000 people) homicide rate in 2015. Thirteen large cities -- population 250,000 or more -- had higher murder rates. Atlanta, Washington, Oakland, Memphis and Kansas City, for instance, all have higher violent crime rates. But Chicago's numerical murder rate has been higher than that of the country's two larger cities, Los Angeles and New York.

Well theres a ton more people so of course the numbers are higher.

So based off your logic you would rather live in East St. Louis with the highest murder rate per capita simply because their number of actual murders is lower.

Key word, murder RATE, not numbers.

East St. Louis is number one, with a total of 188 murders, Chicago had 478. Do the math.

That's from 2015, BTW. There were 795 in 2016 and 659 last year.

Well theres a ton more people so of course the numbers are higher.

I wouldnt live in any of those shitholes.

Not sure why anyone would get their panties in a bunch over this. They asked 15k people in the 32 cities from the list. Legit polling for sure.

And they also left off all kinds of cities that traditionally top these types of lists left and right.

Why not just let Chicago have its day? It's rare to see it top a list that isn't corruption or bed bug related.
