Amazon is raising its monthly Prime membership rates 18 percent.

The premium membership that grants faster shipping and access to Amazon Video will now cost $12.99 per month, up from $10.99, according to the company's membership page.

Amazon is also increasing the discounted student monthly rate from $5.49 to $6.49 per month for new sign-ups.

Every time my shipment takes longer than 2 days, I send an email and Amazon gives me a $10 credit. I probably get at least half of the annual fee paid for by doing this.

I have a feeling that will stop. Because now their terms and conditions say two-day shipping once it ships. So Prime items are not guaranteed to be in stock or shipping same day.

They are getting sneaky.
