I always go with 72 months and pay ahead. It's nice to be able to go a month sometimes without making a car payment. I took out a 72 month loan on my Boss 302 and will have it paid off about 16-18 months early.

I just bought a 2017 Escape and financed it for 72 months at 2.99%. I initially had a 3.99% rate, but refinanced with a Credit Union. I could have had 0% for 72 months, but chose ~$7,000 in rebates instead. My thinking was I'd come out well ahead by refinancing for a lower rate and making advanced payments.

I don't really go through cars quickly, so I'd rather have a 5-6 year loan and have more money from my paycheck to put into savings or into my investment account.
