I used my iPhone to record my track runs. It worked great with one of those generic phone mounts from the AT&T store. You will need to drop the resolution of your camera to 720p otherwise the videos will be huge. But its not a bad idea. And you will need to offload them frequently.

Why not just get one of those rechargeable wireless dash cams. They are great. Get a 64bg SD card from walmart like I did for $22, and you will be set for hundreds of hours.

Personally,

I'd get a dedicated dash cam.

Here's what I use:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MFAK888/?tag=tcg21-20

Great quality, good sound, fish eye view and discreet.

Never have to change the SD card once you put it in and the screen on it helps to see if the camera is working or not. Another feature is you can download the GPS logger for the GPS mount, which logs your speed, coordinates of where you were, etc.

Had it for ab out 5 months without issue (knock on wood)

Interesting, had no idea there were wireless dash cams now. That's pretty slick and cheap. I don't see it being rechargeable though.

Did you hardwire this in? Or does it have long enough cord to wrap around your car to a lighter?

Hey bud,

It is not hardwired in, but, the cord it came with is long enough to wrap around about half of my windshield, under the glove box and below the center dash to plug in.

You can hardwire it in and a few sites sell that camera for the same price also sell the hardwire kits for about 20-30 bucks or so.

Since researching what you got on all the dash cam sites I'm now switching my entire plan to either the A119 or A119S.

Thanks for getting me to spend more hahaha. Seems to be a solid unit either way.

I've been using the a118c/B40D for about a year now. It's been great, and has a rearview input as well. I like this version that adheres to the windshield with 3M and hides behind the rearview mirror instead of a large suction cup. It's great peace of mind to know that I've got visual proof of any incidents (or none at all if it is self-incriminating!).

I'm considering upgrading, and would sell it for $30 (no SD card) to any TCG members willing to pick it up in Plainfield.

It's this unit:
