I wonder how long it will take to make back the cost of the Sense ($299) and purchase cost of new appliances to replace the power hogs? Definitely worth it if the Sense shows how to save money quickly. Not as much if it takes years to pay off. As a gimmick for seeing power consumption, it's cool. I would like to know how much my A/C, electric heater and pool cost to run. pcmag mentions the device doesn't convert to dollars so you'll have to do that on your own.

I've heard it can't even identify an electric car charger which is the one huge thing I'd be using it for. I really want it to work but from the reviews it seems it isn't there yet

We stay pretty aware of our energy consumption in our house. It has saved us a little bit each month. Typically $10-$20.

I think this would be cool just for the monitoring capabilities. Not sure how much savings it would be as I don't know that I would adjust any behaviors. Very curious how many "signatures" it is able to determine and how many unknown devices come up. I also wonder if the insteon switches which communicate through both power lines and RF will interfere with anything.

I thought Comed smart meters have the capability to talk to smart devices and provide real time and usage reports as well?

Thought that was only for their benefit so they could remotely pull usage. I would be very surprised if their meter is doing anything beyond that. If so ya'll better turn off the grow lights

I think they have a dashboard with usage and stats. They slapped one on my house a couple years ago but I never checked it out

I have the ComEd smart meter and it's just basic information. Nothing special about it except that it's actual readings every month. Tells me how much I've currently used and compares it to neighbors (efficient and average). Nothing special.

Hate the new Comed smart meter. EVER since we got it installed, our bill is higher despite having a new AC which is more efficient than our previous 17 year old one as well as a good furnace.

The nest stuff is pretty good. We are thinking of getting the Nest outdoor cam and possibly the smoke detectors since all are monitored/controlled by an app, which is cool.

Any suggestion on how I'd go about investigating this, getting my actual usage and comparing it to what this thing says?

You would use one of those kill-a-watts to calculate actual usage per device.

Charger for my volt and potentially a Bolt in the future. Right now my calculations are based on what's on my dashboard which doesn't take into account conversion losses. So it may cost me $.45 instead of $.40 to charge my car fully lol

This thing is cool because it is literally just a super accurate amp-clamp. The software is what makes all the decisions about what each device going on and off is

probably not even super accurate, would like to see it compared just to a basic fluke clamp meter. Still not sure how they are able to pull unique device usage from the mains.

This seems pretty cool. Not sure it's worth $300 though. I'd like to see what is causing my high electric bills. It will probably start tweaking out after I turn on all my shop equipment lol

I'd love to monitor the power from my hot tub. Maybe by the time we buy our next house, they'll have the bugs worked out.
