i know i have seen a lot of guys buying and selling different radar detectors, im wanting your opinion on which one to buy. i will buy used, and ive been reading a ton of different reviews and comparisons. most of the driving is highway and i honestly havn't had a speeding ticket in over 7-8 years so im contimplating if spending $500 on a detector is worth it. or if the cheap escort 8500 will suffice. but if the 9500 or the ix or ect is ALOT better for a little more, then ill swing it.

what says you TCG?

I started with the 9500ix. You should be able to pick them up for about $300 used. I bought mine for that and sold it for that 1.5 years later. It's good and will keep you from getting a ticket. Back when I had this it would go off and my friends would start looking for the cop car and usually find it.

Now Ive had my Max 360 for a year. I get less false alerts and like the arrows. Is it $300 better then the 9500ix probably not. When it goes off now with the arrows and signal strength when my friends ask where the cop is I can tell them and I'm right over 90% of the time.

While driving today the radar went off and I didn't even hit the brakes even though I was 10mph over till the signal got over half way and I said the cop is the 4th car on coming. This in the dark and I couldn't tell what kind of car it was that far away.

If you want to absolutely know where they are at spend $600 if you don't mind slowing down right away and going the speed limit longer till the signal is gone get one for $300.

Love my V1, worth every penny. I too haven't had any speeding tickets in years now myself but I also only paid $200 for it from another guy on here.

X- and K-band are virtually useless as no cops (unless you're in bumble fuck Appalachia) use those bands but every car's collision avoidance and building automatic doors do, so it's best to disable those bands all together. KA and laser are what you need to worry about but all recent detectors have those.

Only downside with the v1 is that they get stolen if they are seen. So keep them out of the way. I let my friend borrow mine once, he went to wood field mall and had tinted windows. In the store for 15 min and came back to a smashed window and stolen radar. I was pretty pissed :fu:

Mine is hidden above the dot matrix of the windshield right next to my rear view mirror so you can't see it from outside my truck no matter which way you look.

Good to know regardless.

When I had my eclipse I turned the bracket around and used a piece of foam to hang it from the headliner where the hatch closes. Plus tinted windows, you would never of seen it even if you were looking for it.
Then I had the remote display that I hid inside the air vent. Close the vent and it's 100% hidden.

Don't forget to check out the new iX as well.

I got one for the RAM and it seems to be doing a great job of eliminating false alerts and has great range capability as well.

https://www.escortradar.com/iX/

this is the one i was initially wanting. i have seen a few go for $350 via ebay but there aren't very many since it's new. im just having a hard time justifying it since i haven't had a ticket is so long as is. 9500's go for around $220ish on ebay and 8500's go for around 100ish. so im trying to decide how much to spend to make it worthwhile. i haven't had a detector and only a couple of speeding tickets my entire life. so a 8500 will be better then what i currently have. but, i like the longer range and gps capabilities of others.

Started with the 9500ix (bought through Escort). When they first came out with the newer detectors (max), I immediately jumped in and preordered it and got a lifetime database update for the detector and 3 years of Escort Live. I was one of the first 1000 preprders.

One day my radar was going off around 47/72 and I turned left onto 72 east. Was still going off. Just about 1.5 miles down the road was a cop sitting on the side. It's rare for me to get that much range but with the right conditions, It can. Otherwise it's still good range. It has saved me plenty of times.

One thing to take into consideration is that Escort offers some kind of financing. You pay about $200 or $250 down and pay around $35/month for a year or something like that. They also do trade-ins the last time I checked but it's better to sell yourself as Escort doesn't offer what you can get.

I love my Max and will probably get a newer one with the next new vehicle I purchase, but you can't go wrong with Escorts. I just leave mine just above the dash on the bottom part of the windshield (with the provided sticky mount). Never had issues of break-ins or anything no matter where I go.
