Modified my roof, added a 4 post lift, added 100ft of gas line for a 150k btu heater, and been working on the car, changed the trans crossmember, and welding up my own 3" SS exhaust piece by piece. Cleaning up the under side and doing some undercarriage coating too

Anyone else keeping busy this winter??

Agreed. How many sqft?

Any more pics of the vault framing?

Here you go sir, used 2ply girder trusses with 2x6 purlins every 12" OC, tied old top chord in with purlins using hurricane ties. Roof didn't even budge when I cut out the existing web members lol. These are some old pics, I since added triple studs under the heels for better weight dist, all sound

Who did the modifications to the trusts etc? I need to do this to my garage and just wondering how much it would cost. I only have 9 foot ceilings but have plenty room above the drywall.

I did everything, but worked with an engineer at midwest manufacturing (the manufacturer of my trusses). Every house is different, so you need to see what kind of framing you have and what your foundation is like before specing anything out.

I had some guys come out to give me estimates, but it was a little pricey and their solutions were no offense, half assed compared to what was done here. I received quotes 3k-4k for a 10ft wide section to be opened up.

I spent $750~ on all 4 trusses, another $200 on perlins/joist hangers, and maybe $200 more on brackets and nails, oh and a pneumatic palm nailer

Nice work on the garage and lift install! Good to see people doing their own improvements!

As for the exhaust, any plans to use mandrel bent pipe?

Thank you, yes, I'm actually doing it the slow painful way. Purchase some SS tubing, and cutting/welding/measuring as I go. All the pipes I buy are pre-made mandrel bent shapes. Since I took the pics, I decided to spend the extra and get pre-polished stuff, it'll save me a lot of time in the long run

Yes, but the engineer helped out to ensure the load calculations exceeded the standards needed with snow loads and such.

To answer your prev question it's 26x26 IIRC

I was gonna say, that looks engineered and wasn't sure if you had a background there.

And that is a lot of heater for 26x26! I bet it gets real toasty real fast!

Hope you are using stainless mig wire or the welds will rust. I did mine last spring. I bought a universal 3.5" stainless Pypes X kit for half the price Kooks wanted for the same exact X kit. Turned out well though I don't seem to have any picks of it welded up with the mufflers.

I definitely dig the garage improvisation and dat 3rd GEN! :fy: Keep up the good work!:bigthumb:

I've gotta move the turbo Regal just enough to move my refrigerator sized syncrowave 300 out to Al's garage so that we can do some final TIG welding on the olds. He gets the welder and I have to find some place to store an engine and two Transmissions... Yay

Nice, I want to try TIG someday when I get some spare time :bigthumb:
Seems the welds always come out looking alot more "pretty"

I understand what you're going through I initially built this car in a 1 car garage....thankful for what I have today

keep it up!

Ah that looks great, wish the subframe on the third gens was a lot better for exhausts, but I'm making it work!

Using stainless wire and trimix :bigthumb:
adding high quality vbands at the collector (if you can see them) and for the parts that go over the axle for easy disassembly in the future
