syP. Portland hiring!!

In a blog post Tuesday, Police Chief Mike Marshman said the contract was urgently needed to help the city recruit new officers.
By the end of the month, the 880-member Portland Police Bureau will have nearly 90 vacancies due to retirements and another 385 officers are projected to retire in the next five years.
Better pay will help the city entice new hires and could deter current officers from leaving to work elsewhere, he said.

The city signed a new contract with the police union, people wanted the incoming new city officials to handle it.

They assumed the items that they didn't like with bodycam provisions was in this contract, but the city officials say those will be ironed out with support from the citizens of Portland.

:dunno:

From an article:

For the past several weeks, activists with Don't Shoot PDX and Black Lives Matter have been asking Mayor Charlie Hales to hold off on voting on a new Portland Police union contract until mayor-elect Ted Wheeler gets into office.

Hales, along with Portland Police Chief Mike Marshman, said passing the contract was "critical" to filling upcoming vacancies in the bureau.

Protesters have taken issue with several aspects of the contract, namely a clause they say would allow officers to review body camera footage before writing reports.

However, Commissioner Nick Fish told KATU News nothing in the contract addresses the use of body cameras.

"It was carved out and will be discussed with the community later," Fish explained.

Activists had planned to testify against the contract in front of city council Wednesday, but they say they weren't given the chance to do so. Some of them moved their tents inside city hall, and continued protesting while council voted to pass the contract 3-1.

these hippies are also the first to call 911 when their fixed gear bicycle is jacked

as long as they cant alter or delete video, so what if officers can review body cam footage for writing reports? :dunno:

on one hand this is agreeable, on the other we have clearly seen instances of officers lying while videos told the truth. it would be possible and unfortunate if this was able to help them come up with a better believable lie...

but wouldn't it be easier to make up a believable lie without a body cam though? The video should deter them from making a false report because video doesn't lie, unless they can alter the video in someway.

edit: I just don't see how and why this would be protest worthy. And hasn't there been protests calling for officers to carry body cameras
