So, this is about 3 years old, but I stumbled onto the video.

Now, the thing is, far as I can tell is real. Popular Mechanics usually doesn't post fake stuff, though they do like to look at future tech.

Appearently there was a $250,000 prize for whoever could get off the ground 3m and not hover out of a ten meter box, maintaining 1 min of flight time

Watching the video I have a hard time figuring out how they are powering the rotors. It probably uses a pull system, but its really hard to see with all those lines heading everywhere.

The fact that a human can even provide enough power for vertical hovering is amazing in itself though.

Found this because I was looking for the world record for human powered bicycle. Which is 86mph. Done by the same group too.

I think they did that on purpose so that no one stole their design
