There's also southwest michigan, tons of breweries and wineries, and bitches love the vino. Indiana and Warrren Dunes are close so you can do a beach day, etc.

South Haven - go there. Go to North Beach for some beach time, then go to Saugatuck and get ice cream and browse the shops. Just got back from there, always enjoy going.

what kind of activities you do?

We camp, hike, swim and canoe and before my knee gave out bouldering. And New Glarus is roughly 30 minutes away. They also have horse back riding.

Wife and I did a long weekend stay downtown Milwaukee. Was a great time going to the lakefront, all the breweries (Miller included), Octoberfest on the German st., Lakefront, went drinking at a downtown bar then they shuttled everyone to the Brewers game and back, etc...

It's JUST above your 4-5 hour limit, but going to the UP is a fun trip for a few days. Lots to see and do, especially if you are outdoorsy. The drive along Lake Michigan is pretty nice too

We're kind of spoiled, Colleen's best friends mom owns a house, so we stay there.

We've stayed with them when they rented a house a few years ago but they bought after that year...
