watz passed away couple years ago so finally ready to possibly get back in the sport of schutzhund

I also have a rescue GSD but there is a BIG difference between rescues and getting one from a quality breeder.

I find that line to be so ridiculous. Yes, there are plenty of pets waiting to be adopted (and yes, its a great thing to adopt), but there is nothing wrong with going from a breeder (assuming its not a puppy mill).

We got our GSD Mix from Hinsdale Humane Society, We've had her going on 2 years, and she's the most loving dog, and sharp as hell with no health issues.

Does shed a Fuck-Load though...

To each their own. I looked up Pit Bull breeders but all of them had massive ass dogs they bred with short stocky bodies and big heads. Didn't like they way the looked so we rescued.

If you want a GSD just for the sake of having one, rescue one.

If you want a GSD because you have a purpose for wanting one like IPO or so on. Then get a pup, breeder or rescue.

Even a good GSD rescue can set you up with a good pup.

I would get a puppy from a reputable breeder. I have a rescue dog and when I get the chance to get a shepherd I will go with a puppy from a breeder.

My niece and her boyfriend got theirs from a breeder that has a k9 working bloodline. If your interested let me know I can get the info. Our GSD is also a working dog bloodline from a 20+ year breeder on Harlem. Heritage Kennels.

I rescued a stray's puppy that came from OK. He's pretty fucking smart. Every now and then, however, he'll "Lab out" (half Lab) and start licking windows then snap out of it.

He's insanely smart when he is though and unbelievably loyal. He apparently now knows how to open doors without myself or Megan teaching or even showing him.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I am definitely not against rescues...Both of my dogs have been from rescues (my first one was a shepherd and now we have a lab mix), but I've always wanted a purebred shepherd from a reputable breeder

We tried the GSD Rescue route and they make you jump through so many hoops and want to come see your home etc. They made it such a pain in the ass we went to the breeder.

If only buying a dog was the same way. We wouldn't have the need for shelters and rescues.

And if you want a dog, that bad. You shouldn't mind the home check and such. They want what's best for the dog.

Yes, we actually got ours from a Shepherd specific rescue. They were very careful as mentioned...came to my house 2-3 times, interviewed the family, etc. It was pretty funny, but I didn't mind them checking up on her

I had ZERO problems when the rescue I went with wanted to have someone come check out my house. Zip, none, nada. I had a great interaction with the lady that came to my house and it was pretty informative on what she was looking for.

It's unbelievable how many animals are abandoned because people don't comprehend how much work they are...

I was looking at getting a husky awhile back from a rescue. Same deal. Interviews, house visits, etc. Thats the way most are, and I'm happy for that.
