Northern Lights Today

At this very moment the biggest show since 2003 is going on. The KP level needs to get to 7 to see it this far down in the US. It is currently at KP8. There was a few solar flares that the gf and I have been watching the last few days and unfortunately they produced no show. We watched all the prediction maps last night and there was nothing. About 4am out of nowhere, they exploded and gave people a huge show. Unfortunately we were sleeping. We are really hoping it lasts through the night so we can photograph them. We are driving into wisconsin after 4pm.

So look up tonight. You will be able to see them with the naked eye if this lasts.

It hit Washington Il this morning. It may be hard to see it around the city

I just went out on my roof to see if I could see anything low on the horizon, no such luck. I'm pretty far west of the city so there's a clear line of sight to the lake (though it is almost 20 miles away)

I wish it was warmer, I'd hop on the bike and head to the dunes

We went to Indiana Dunes last night to catch the last of it. Still a lot of light pollution radiating from the city across the lake and close by beach houses. Needless to say, an amazing thing to see with your own eyes. I had no idea shore line will be covered with ice mountains! Gotta bring that tripod next time...
