Anyone ever build their own backyard ice rink?

Just find a local pond or outdoor rink. A backyard rink is difficult to maintain and the ice quality usually sucks. I've skated on some backyard rinks and they are usually too small to be any fun for hockey or skating in general.

Forgot about this thread.

I have a pond and outdoor rink accessible but the pond is a pain to maintain, more so than where the rink would be in relation to utilities. and pretty much all outdoor rinks are either tempting for the trespassing ticket or slammed with so many kids it's useless.

Chi-Town....
My old man and his buddies did back in the day in our neighborhood where we grew up. They plowed a lot and made 3ft mounds of snow all the way around, Cracked open a hydrant and filled it with about 4in of water and let it freeze.... Gotta love the old Chicago italian neighborhoods in the late 80's early 90's when everyone knew everyone and had fun...
