Welp. Already did my obligatory NOOB introduction. So I guess I'll post up some pics of my GTP project.

The photos are in chronological order, starting back in 2015.

Before I curbed it for repairs. She was running kinda good, LOL.

Pics from up in Michigan. When helping a friend of mines rebuild an old farm house:

Heater core came out. DexCool dust up the azz. The radio also needed an AUX input. Why not.

After that I put in a new heater core. Came back to the car a few days later. Fired it up only to have coolant leaking into the inside of the car. And the brake fluid leaked out from the rusty lines. MAN! What the hell!! Burn this fucking thing down!!

Turns out that the heater core hoses were dry rotted the ends where they connect to the heater core at the firewall. Bought new hoses and problem was solved.

Repairs cont'd

Some other GTP owner had covered the interior metal of his car with SecondSkin dampening material. I thought that a great idea and wanted to do that myself so I bought some. Its made of a sticky tar like substance with thin metal foil on top. Comes in huge sheets (12x20). SecondSkin being applied:

Bought some new carpet after deciding on Charcoal as the color. Not sure why I even ordered it since it wasn't going in. It's still sitting around. Motivation to keep going I guess...This thing was jammed into a box the size of a gym bag. LOL. Looks F'd up in those first few photos. It was really greasy and slick feeling as well.

Doors panels getting some TLC. Put some edge guard on the crown of them Edge guard had some adhesive running down the spine. It worked well, hugged the door edge like it should. All 4 door panels also got coated in SecondSkin:

Carpet after sitting out for 2 months. It really got its shape back and a lot of the greasiness evaporated:

Yeah.... she's a rusty ol' girl. Rockers and rear towers are F'd. I was a complete mechanical novice, and car novice, when I got all excited about fixing this car up. In hindsight, this was NOT the best car to be restoring. I totally admit that. On the other hand, its been in the family all its life and its cheaper to work with what ya got. I'm also way, wayyy to deep into it now tho. Those rockers and towers are being fixed as we speak. Probably gonna run me about a Grand. I know.... I know...

Wrenchin

Continuing on... many more photos to post. Gonna take me a few days on here. Anyway, took a break from wrenchin. Drove from Chicago to Key West with the wife and 2 kids in our 2007 Corolla S. Odometer pic showing temp difference and mileage. lol.

I'm a real driver. Love to drive. Covered the country many times. Ever since watching True Lies as a kid I wanted to drive that ocean highway. What an astonishing feat of engineering.

Came back to snow. Shity.

Snow melted. Car got lifted like 2 feet. Enough room to lay on a creeper. Lots of rust, no real good spots to suspend the car. Ended up using doing this in the photos. This held up for like 6 months, or more. Gale force winds, snow, rain, everything. Safe and sturdy.

Brackets came off finally. Never was able to get the bolts off the arms. Ended up paying a shop to do it. New arms trailing arms from ZZP, new brake lines. Also did the fuel pump re-wire, and scalped the foam off the old carpet. I found out from other people that the new carpet does not fit well at all without that foam,so its best to keep the old foam. All that is still waiting to be done...

Wire wheeled the mounting surfaces and soaked them in OSPHO:

For extra protection, the new trailing armbrackets got some rattle-can black along with the rear sway-bar mounting brackets.

New fuel and brake lines came in. Fuel line from Lines-to-Go. Pretty cheap actually. Brake lines from Classic Tube, not so cheap. Also some new windshield wipers and more SecondSkin. But everything fit well. Not exactly perfect, but good enough.

Also the brake lines at the wheels were installed. I removed the little mounting arms where the unions connect, and rattle-canned them as well.
