BrianG has them on his 6.0 PSD Excursion. They came with it from the last owner and they're amazing. Thing never squats. I'll take pics this weekend of before and after the car trailer gets hooked up.

I changed the coolant filter at 119000. It looked a lot better than before, but still dirty. I'll probably do it again in 5k.

I'll be changing oil again next week. I also had a pretty good summer with work, so I spent about $1k yesterday on steering and suspension parts. More to come.

9/20/17

122,400 miles. I changed oil and didn't put any additives in this time. I've done it the last two oil changes, so we'll see what happens here as it's starting to get colder. Here is the oil analysis though. I'm pretty happy with this oil. I pulled the hell out of this thing since the last oil change on some 100 degree days, and viscosity was still pretty good for a 6.0.

I also bought some mud flaps and installed them.

New steering stabilizer.

New Bilstein 5100 shocks. Everyone raves about these, but I haven't been able to tell much of a difference at all. I did put a clear coat on them to try and keep them looking nice for longer.

10/4/17
I flushed the powersteering fluid. It was pretty nasty.

More to come.

I'm trying to hold off until winter is closer. They have plenty of tread left....probably another 15k miles at least, but they are old and cracked. It kind of scares me to tow with them.

Lol. I just want to make sure that buying this thing was the right decision. I've only got to make it about 25k more miles and a new set of injectors would pay for themselves from the fuel savings over my Chevy. But I anticipate the injectors lasting much longer than that.

A local farm store had Hotshot secret stiction additive on sale. $20 off, so it would be way cheaper than the rev-x I have been using. But, I did some research and people claim that stuff sucks. A lot of people like archoil though, and it's cheaper than rev-x, so I might give it a try.

Haha, well then.

It's supposed to get cold here the next two days. I'm going to leave it outside overnight and see how it starts.

biggest thing is battery condition, FICM voltage, starter.

Id toss a 6.4 starter in it for the hell of it. I put one in every 6.0. I dont even stock 6.0 starters.... spins over way faster

I worry more about fuel side than oil side. fuel additive always.. oil additives for when it just starts to act up and then only use as a band aid til its sold or you have coin for injectors.

what are the injectors that are in it now?

It's just stock injectors with 123k on them. I've never really tested them on a cold morning to see how they do, but I haven't had any reason to think anything is wrong w ith them.

The batteries and ficm are good. I will see what cold weather starting does before I mess with the starter. It'll only be outside during the day while I'm working, so idk if it will actually cool off very much.

From what I've read, most people seem to actually be do i ng 6.7 starters now. I guess they are cheaper than the 6.4's.

Here is the one I looked at a year ago starting at 30 as well, just for comparison.

I decided to spend some money to take the play out of the steering. I could move the steering wheel about 20* with nothing happening.

So, with 123,800 miles, I bought one of these.

I had a hell of a time trying to get this ball joint out.

I drove to Autozone and rented these.

A few hits with the big sledge hammer finally broke it free.

We have an old 2 jaw craftsman puller that I used to pull the pitman arm off, but that still wouldn't budge it. So, I heated the arm up with a torch while keeping pressure with the puller. After about 5 minutes, it shot off. That was interesting, and probably a bit dangerous. The pitman arm was still hot, and it went right on the new gear box. The nut, I think is supposed to be tighted to like like 450 ft. lbs. So, I just tightened it as much as I could with a 2ft breaker bar and about a 1.5' pipe on the end of that.

Old steering box.

New box all installed.

There is a fairly extensive bleeding procedure that they include with the pump. Steering feel is way different. The play is gone, but the wheel turns much harder. One thing I noticed is that I could move the pitman arm on the old steering box easily by hand, but I couldn't on the new box. I'm going to email redhead and see if that's normal. My next step is to get an alignment done and new tires.

I also bought a $15 backup camera from ebay, so I hooked that up to my Edge CTS2. The camera just needs 12v power and ground and then the video feed wire hooked up to the edge unit. Easy to do, except there was no information with the camera showing how to hook it up, so I had to figure that all out.

Sucky picture. This was taken at night. I wish I could zoom the camera out some. I haven't tried hooking up to a trailer yet, but to be able to see the ball, you have to aim the camera down pretty far and you can't see much behind the pickup then.

And lastly, with the weather getting colder, I want to make sure this thing gets up to operating temps before I shut it off. There is a PTO wire under the dash that increases idle rpm if you hook power up to it.

Stock idle.

I hooked it to Aux #4

High idle.

I'm half tempted to put a muffler back on. It's so damn loud on high idle. But it's a good jet-like sound.

No kidding. It'll end up being over $500 by the time I get my core refund back. But, I'm hoping it'll be the last one I ever buy.
