F-body Monsoon AUX input modification

Well I'm at it again, while trying to show off my new sub-woofers last night my stupid FM modulator was screwing things up. So I figured out how to add an auxiliary input to connect my android phone straight to.

Took the stock monsoon radio apart

Went to Radio Shack and got a 3.5mm head phone base

Took the face plate apart and drilled a hole for the headphone jack

Soldered 5 wires to the headphone jack

installed the headphone jack into the face plate

reassembled the face plate and ran the new wires out around the side of the circuit board.

cut and spliced the new wires into the CD audio left/right channel output.

reassembled the radio and this is what it looks like from the front.

Picture of the radio reinstalled in the car.

So to make the aux work you have to have a CD playing and then plug your headphone cable in. This is just a way to bypass the CD audio. so when you plug the cable in you're just introducing a new audio source.

I did not come up with this idea I Googled Monsoon aux input and found this link

How you can add an aux input/mp3 player without an adapter - LS1TECH

I just found a clean way to install the headphone jack into the face plate of the radio. This procedure was awesome, Jason Novak on LS1Tech rocks.

not gonna lie, if you can't use a soldering iron and don't have patience, i wouldn't attempt this. I did take me about 3-4 hours start to finish, including a run to the Radio Shack. I have a background doing stuff like this and I thought it was challenging.

You'll need:
Soldering Iron
22 gauge wire
solder
flux
a headphone connector

torx screwdriver
wire cutter
wire stripper
shrink tubing
drill bits
drill
needle nose pliers
small file
regular screwdriver
1/4 inch sockets and wrench

and a few hours without any interruptions.

Cost me $3.50
