🔧 BUILD Bob’s fuck you 85 k5 blazer CUCV build, it’s got boost, it’s got 1 ton axles and zero creature comforts!

General Information

Lets summarize the shit diesel.

It started with a text from a friend saying come get it for cheap. This is what I ended up with.

Started painting. The desert sand color was in rough shape. When it would get wet you could see the original OD green bleed through.

I've got a thing for green and thought it should go back to its original color since the carc tan was in poor shape.

The suspension rode rough as shit due to it being completely sagged in front. I ordered a set of tuff country HD springs (still softer spring rate than other companies) and a set of 2" blocks for the rear. Turns out the 2" lift, lifted the truck nearly 4".

I hated how small the stock 31x10.5" tires looked after the lift so I ordered some 33" general grabbers since I didn't want to push my luck with the shit 3.08 gears.

Then I moved to Denver and this went from a DD to something I wanted to hit trails with (there are hundreds of miles of legal trails in the area). The biggest problem was actually getting to trail heads because they all started at at least 8,000ft and got over 12,000ft easily. So a change had to come.

Got an awesome deal on some 6.5 diesel shit. Had to piece together other stuff and mod some things to get it to fit.

Turbo install in my shitty tight 1 car garage:

The what I got for $2500 manly solid axle 4x4 random BS thread

The turbo made a huge difference in driveability especially at high elevation but I was still deathly scared of the stock 10 bolts with gov-bomb and 3.08 gears so then came the roadster parts truck
BFD7FFB3-D822-4630-8CB0-78CF3441A1E0_zpsjdv22rxu.jpg

:noes:

It had a chevy 350 with th400 and a 14 bolt full float rear axle and dana 60 front axle with 4.10 gears. Also had near new 35" BFG KO's.

We also moved into a house with a big 2 car garage

At this point all I had was a shell that I couldn't find anybody to come get (even if I paid them) so the next logical thing was to bust out the sawsall and go to town!

The roadster was in a roll over and I'm guessing that's why this was like this

I sold the front bumper, engine and trans/transfer case which completely paid for the price of the truck :fy: This left me with a free 14 bolt FF and dana 60 axle along with the wheels and tires.

The rear axle got the most work. It got a set of disc brakes along with a 13 bolt shave cover (more sawsall!)

The wheels/tires I got with the parts truck are 35x12.5x16.5 and there aren't many tires available in that size (plus the rims are ugly) so I decided to go with a 16" set of BFG KO2's. They have way more sidewall protection over the original KO and still get awesome snow and cold weather rating.

Its a 1985 m1009 cucv ex military blazer. As far as mods go they're not impressive.

Tuff country 2" lift front EZ-ride HD springs.
Tuff country rear 2" blocks.
Tuff country shocks all around including steering damper.
(All made in USA :fy:)
33x12.5 general grabber at2's

Bed lined the inside.
Trans temp and coolant gauges mounted where radio controls were on dash.
Giant trans cooler
Ammo can center console with cup holders
Made a custom locking twin ammo can holder in back mounted to jerry can mount.

Custom mounted trailer plug in bumper (see rear pic above)
2" hitch that was interesting to install
Trailer brake

There's probably more I can't think of.

Future mods in almost the order I want to do them in.

Sm 465 trans swap. Probably end up keeping a 208 t case.

D60 front axle and a rear full float 14 bolt and some hmmwv 37" take offs. I'll probably need to add some zero rate blocks to move my axles outwards.

6.5 turbo setup

At some point I'd like to ditch my rear saggy springs and blocks for a shackle flip and 56" springs or just some new tuff country 2" lift springs.

What are common problems with that generation Jeep GC with the 4.7? Might have to pick up a second car over the summer that the fiance would drive sparingly. That generation seemed nicer than the one it was replaced by in 05.
