So I am still debating what to do with some of my bonus, but the thought of building an AR popped in, and I just wanna ask a few ??s.

I know piecing/building one would be better in the long run, but I also like the idea of just a Ruger AR556/MPR or M&P 15, but I dont know if I want an A2 front post, and like the rail look over a standard front grip.

I dont know everything, so excuse me if I sound stupid.

I know a lower requires the 4473 form, so the upper assembly can just be mailed straight to me then correct? I was looking at something like this just to get my feet wet.

PSA 16" M4 5.56 NATO 1/7 Carbine-Length Nitride 13.5" Lightweight M-Lok MOE EPT Rifle Kit - 5165447811

Or this.

PSA 16" 5.56 NATO 1/7 Mid-Length Nitride 13.5" Lightweight Keymod MOE EPT Rifle Kit With MBUS Sight Set - 516447145

Thoughts or ideas? Id like to spend less than $700 total, so thats why I liked those that came with the MBUS sights, but those can be purchased later as well if someone has a better idea.

The only piece that is considered the "firearm" of the AR is the lower receiver. You can have everything else, barrel, upper receiver, trigger, bolt, stock, and so on, mailed to your house as if it were a piece of metal.

If you look at the description of both of those kits, they're identical except for the rail. It's which ever you would want; KeyMod or M-Lok. KeyMod designed by VLTOR and Noveske, M-Lok designed by Magpul. From the quick search I did of KeyMod vs M-Lok, there's nutswingers on both sides.

It was crazy addicting building my first, already working on a second now. Hahaha

If you don't want to buy all the tools and stuff your best bet is complete uppers and lowers or a complete rifle.

Is there such a thing as a precision AR-10 style of gun that would be good for hunting?

of course. a lot depends on barrel, optic, and shooter when talking precision though.

I am not looking to build, but what is a good rifle to purchase that fits the bill? I have an awesome hookup on half price Leupold stuff. I would be fine with buying a new barrel and trigger if I needed to. I was looking at the M&P 10 hunter version but am not convinced it is going to be accurate enough. I am mainly looking for the rifle to do its job if I do mine.

I am more looking for a modern sporting rifle .308 for elk hunting. Something that has a larger caliber but lower recoil.

I was looking at those. Remington has a r25 GII hunter that is based off of that.

Are you going to want a common caliber or is something more specialized okay? If you're looking at limited ammo use (hunting) I'd consider a 338 Federal. It nets you about 500 ft-lbs of energy over 308 and the BC close enough it will be better or worse depending on bullet selection. Also, you can always order/build another 308 or other caliber upper if you want to shoot cheap although you'd need to put glass etc. on it.

I was looking for a more common caliber. Even though I will use this primarily for hunting, I will still want to use it for fun shooting sessions. Mainly why I am looking for a gas gun as I enjoy shooting them in general.

Took my $269 Savage 12FV to the range this past Friday. This was the best group I mustered, .577" @ 100 yards. The other groups averaged right around 1 MOA.

I'm really tempted to throw it in a bedded/pillared Boyd's laminate stock. That, along with some hand-loads, should have it shooting closer to .5" all day long.

Id suggest the ACSS models, 4x, Green Chevron

I just bought a mini, and while it fulfills its purpose for CQB, its alot smaller than i thought it would be

That's the model for sure......

TA31-G-ACSS

Biggest thing is how light they still are. Under 10 ounces for a 4X scope. I could do an MRO to save even more weight but I've always wanted an ACOG for some reason.

I can't wait to get an optic on mine and go shoot it. What did you end up putting on it for glass?

I know gun sales on here are prohibited, but are we able to sell parts that wouldn't require a FOID? Like I'm getting some different parts from a friend for an AR build, so can I sell like the safety, mag release, and bolt catch on here?

Non-FOID items are perfectly fine. Nothing that has a serial number on it.

Exactly what was said. Only non FFL required items would be fine to sell through TCG.

Leupold VX-2 3-9x40... Nothing fancy, but an excellent scope for the money.
