I like that checkmate, ive been looking at checkmates lately thinking about going alittle bit bigger next year, your best bet for a first boat is to find something thats stock, if you want to go faster do the motor build and swap yourself so you know whats in there

id like stock but it seems that boats in my price range are one of two ways. mid 90s and re-built with semi low hours or early 00's with high hours and the original engine. In a powerboat, if it's been used like one, I'm guessing the motor will be tired out somewhere between 400 and 500 hours.

stock merc motors are good well into the 1000's of hours if taken care of, the more nasty stuff like the 500 hp's and the 525sc's need a top end every few hundred hours but still pretty good for the horse power range, and rebuilt is ok, but i would keep an extra few grand just incase i dont trust many people to do a marine motor

I've heard lots of mixed reviews about the play pen... Many saying petite sandbar is where it's at

They are GM blocks, so they are reliable. The drives are what people often neglect and where they pay with their wallets. Most of the engine work I do myself since it's easy and there is tons of space to work. Now, I wouldn't want to work on my friend's 28' offshore boat with twin 572's cramed in the engine compartment.

I will never have the money to buy one anyway lol, the arneson drives are the big draw back on docking cleaver style props suck in reverse and thats what 99% of arneson drives run, i dont think there are any other drives that can handle a turbine tho, if i had the money to buy whatever i want it would be a dcb 31 widebody with 1350's and m8's
