I have zero interest in a cat, completely useless except going fast and insurance is insane on them.

Extra motor is pretty damn good insurance out on lake michigan. Its not a river or a bigger lake. It gets rough out there quick and shore isnt 200yds away. I was out on a friends boat this year and we lost the prop, took an hour for the tow to get there and in that time the swells went from 2-3' to nearly 5' as a storm came into the horizon. We couldnt make it back to burnham because it got so bad during the tow, had to stop at dusable next to navy pier and tie us up until the next day. Ripped the cleats out of the side of the boat and partially pulled out the D ring on the bow.

Also have had starter go out on the water this year and blew an oil line. He's been lucky to have me with both times and Ive made some temporary fixes to limp back to the harbor.

Definitely not interested in a cruiser, and id like a cuddy to make the season last a bit longer than being stuck out in the wind on an open bow.

Im indifferent on the twins vs single motors. They both have pros and cons, but the larger boat will definitely let me be out in some rougher water.

Have not committed to buying anything yet, but i did go apply for a loan so I'll know where I stand with financing.
Have we learned nothing in this recession
Taking out a loan to buy a boat, and an extravagant one at that? Buy it when you can afford it. Boats are huge money pits and if you can't foot the first bill to buy it all at once what happens if one of those motors needs a rebuild, or god knows what else can go wrong on a 10 year old boat.
I know a lot of people do it, but wise words I was once told are "on average people are dumb", true story.

I agree to buy a boat outright.

I have owned a variety;

14 ft Alumacraft john boat with a 15 hp Evinrude
15ft Glaspar w/ 85 hp Merc
13 ft Sidewinder with a 65 hp Evinrude
21 ft Century inboard

All a great time in their own way, but the money kept rolling out in repairs, fuel, doc fees, storage.

Crazy, but my most reliable boat was a 14 ft Alumacraft john boat with a 15 hp Evinrude. Boat never failed or had issues and took a terrific beating.

Must haves:
-minimum of 25' length, under 10,000lbs boat+trailer
-cabin with reasonable sleeping accommodations for 2 people, plus seating
-seating on deck for at least 5
-accessible bow

wants:
-2 engines
-speeeeed, over 60
Plenty of boats will go 60 plus mph. We had our Cobalt GPS'd at a hair under 65 mph and it's by no means a performance hull.

I was going to say the same thing too. The only thing that I've ever had an issue with was the sea water pump impeller. It went out on me on the middle of the lake and the engine started to get hot. I shut it down and had it towed.

Hey KJ, are you the Kevin J. on greenhulk.net from Mt. Something, IL with like 5k posts and 2 Polaris's (Polari?)

Either way, I *may* have just landed this little fucker for free w/ a shoreland'r trailer:

Please disregard the fat chick

1993 Polaris SL 750 Running, but almost no power... Jet pump/impeller are in great shape. I'm hoping it just needs a carb rebuild, triple fuel pump, lines, and then unfortunatly probably a piston and sleeve/nickle. ~$500 for parts, labor, ski, and trailer? I'm happy

Any boat gets the hoes

When I tell girls they should come out on my boat, i've never had one say "well, what kind of boat is it? I don't go on Century's" as long as there's a place for them to tan, they dont give a shit lol.

its cheaper, but you cant go out when you want or bring who you want.

I want a boat because it is fun for more than just myself. Thats one of the big reasons i got rid of my truck. I spent assloads of money on fuel, racing and parts but no one else got to have fun with (directly) except me.

Its a hobby and a waste of money like anything else.
